In my personal opinion the GS850G is one of the best motorcycles ever made. I've owned three of these bikes and put well over 100k miles on the first two. The ’81 model has electronic ignition, tubeless tires and CV carburetors, all of which are improvements over the early models. This bike is clean, well-sorted mechanically and needs nothing. The carburetors are spotless and properly tuned, so the bike starts easily - without choke in warm weather - idles properly and pulls strongly throughout the range with no stumbles or hesitations under any operating conditions. All fluids have been replaced recently, including clutch, brake, final drive, engine oil and fork oil. Progressive Suspension fork springs replace the stock springs (included with the bike upon request) and combine with the excellent damping-adjustable factory shocks for excellent suspension action at both ends, a strong point for these bikes. The bike has brand-new premium rubber front and rear. Handling is light and secure even over bumps, and the bike loves the curves. All controls are properly lubed and adjusted. The throttle snaps immediately back to its stop when released and brakes are strong and smooth without any warping or hot-spotting. Shift and clutch action are flawless. Cosmetically the bike is very good to excellent, not a garage queen but more than presentable in every way. The only real defect is the unfortunately-missing left sidecover. No dents, cracked plastic or missing tabs. Inside of fuel tank is clean. All electrical is perfect; battery and charging systems solid. These are excellent motorcycles that are getting difficult to find in good condition. This bike has has done 32k miles and is absolutely ready to ride anywhere.
