This a 1985 Mercedes 300TD Turbo Diesel Wagon. It has the RARE 3rd row folding seat in pristine condition. And unlike many cars of this vintage it also comes with all three back seat headrests. Many cars of this type are missing the back headrests. The turbo diesel has an engine life expectancy of 500,000 miles before a rebuild. This is considered one of Mercedes Benz’ crowning achievements and one of the most sought after models. There are currently 228,145 original miles on the car, which are pretty low miles for this wagon. 1985 is the last year these legendary wagons with the cast iron heads were produced by hand out of the Mercedes Benz factory in Stuttgart Germany, and it is considered the best year by many collectors. This car would be an excellent candidate to turn into a bio-fuel or veggie oil car. There are several kits available on the market. Description: Black exterior with Tan interior. 5-Cylinder, 3.0 liter, single overhead cam, turbo charged diesel, 4-speed automatic transmission, power assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, manual sunroof, A/C and heat climate control (AC and blower fan don't currently work), power windows, central locking, power steering, Original AM/FM Cassette player, electrically heated rear windshield and rear wiper, quartz chronometer, tachometer, 3-way adjustable front bucket seats, alloy wheels, front center folding arm rest, zebrano wood dash trim and console, combed wool carpet, 2-speed windshield wiper with 5-second mist interval control, parcel nets, and very RARE folding 3rd row seat in pristine condition. Also comes with all three back seat headrests. Exterior Condition: The paint is in pretty good shape with a few imperfections as you can see from the photos. There is one small paint scuff on the left rear door as shown in the photos, and one very small dent behind the left rear door which was too small to photograph. There is also a small bubble in the paint on the back hatch, also shown in the photos. There is a dent in the right front fender from a hit and run incident as shown in the photos. We've touched up a couple of spots on the dent with black touch up paint. There is also a very small rust spot on the hood (less than 1/4" in diameter). There are some rock chips in the very front under the headlights. Not super noticeable, but they're there. The back-up lights are both missing the lens covers, but I'm looking into replacing them before the end of the auction. The exterior rubber is all in good condition, and the chrome trim is in great to pretty good shape. All the glass is in great shape. The emblems are shiny and in excellent condition and the grill is in excellent shape. Interior Condition: The seats are firm and comfortable. The driver's seat does show a little bit of wear, but nothing major for a car of this vintage. The passenger and rear seats are in great condition. The dash is in good condition with one tiny crack next to the right speaker (a common spot for dash cracks) and all the wood trim and center console are in pretty good shape with some minor cracks in a couple of spots on the center console. The headliner and sunroof are in excellent shape and the carpet is in good condition. The door panels are in very nice condition. The only real issue with the interior is oil stains in the carpet of the driver's foot well. There was a leak in the oil pressure line that was fixed and cleaned up, but some staining remains. I've shown this in the photos. There are also a couple of small spots in the rear cargo area carpet where it is worn. Please refer to the photos to see this. Other than the driver foot well and the small spots in the cargo carpeting the interior is in very good shape and is very comfortable. All of this can be seen in the photos. Mechanical Condition: Mechanically this car is pretty sound. The engine is the famous cast iron Mercedes diesel engine and it runs great. There is a very very small occasional oil leak under the car, but it's really quite minor. I just wanted to be totally up front about everything. The transmission shifts strong and smooth in all gears. The engine in this car performs beautifully with nice power and torque and it drives very well on the road. There are no leaks in the exhaust and it is smooth running at all speeds. The alignment is true with no pulling during braking and very little play in the steering wheel. The brakes are strong. The tires are in great condition with about 60% tread life remaining. There is an issue with the vacuum system that controls the door locks and the ignition shut-off. It seems to work normally about half the time. The other half you have to lock the driver's door to get the engine to shut off. Works every time though. This car has many years of motoring to come. I would feel confident in this vehicle on a long road trip. Accessories Condition: The sunroof is the manual type. It fits tight and works great, with no leaks whatsoever. All the gauges, including the tachometer, speedometer and odometer are working properly, except for the oil pressure gauge. There was a leak in the oil gauge line and we had the line clamped off, so the oil gauge no longer works. We just had the oil and oil filter changed, though, and there is no loss of oil. The stereo sounds great. The antenna mast was broken in a car wash, but the radio signal still comes in strong. A new antenna would be easy to install if desired. The AC blew cold and strong until a few months ago. It's not currently working and the blower fan works intermittently. Lights all work well, along with turn signals, head lights, high beams, fog lights, brake lights, parking lights, reverse lights, license plate lights, interior lights, etc. Please Read Carefully: The winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction to discuss pick up and payment terms.
