Vehicle Detail

1972 Triumph Stag convertible/hardtop, original Triumph v8, good running order. 59k miles on the original engine. Original 4-speed manual transmission. This is a good running project car that needs a decent paint job to finish. Imminently expanding family means the projects need to go, hence the sale. This car was sold new by BMC Motors of Seattle in 1972, and has been in the Northwest ever since. It was stored in Seattle in 1986, and I pulled it out of a dry barn in 2007. Since then, it's had lots of work done to it in order to get it running and roadworthy, but it needs a good paint job to finish. Factory spec includes original Triumph v8, original 4-speed manual transmission, extremely rare factory air conditioning, factory soft top, and factory removeable hard top. Recent work includes: New heavy-duty EJ Ward five-row radiator, new six-vane water pump, full cooling system flush, NOS viscous fan coupling Rebuilt and rebalanced original Stromberg carbs New fuel pump, new fuel filters, fuel tank flush Purged and charged factory air conditioning (works!) Re-upholstered and re-foamed front and rear seats (look like new!) Minor lower engine rebuild (new +0.010 thrust washers, NOS Hobourn Eaton oil pump, new Payen sump gasket and oil pickup filter, full oil system flush) All belts replaced (a/c, alternator, PAS) New main dash panel, recalibrated gauges Recon power steering pump, power steering system flush Rebuilt front brake calipers Brand new full stainless steel exhaust system Recon electrics (new fuse box, new voltage regulator, new light switches Recon electric window motors and regulators It mostly needs cosmetic and paint work to complete. The body is rust-free, except for the front valance (replacement full valance panel is included). Glass is excellent, chrome is mostly good. Most of the carpet is gone, but the floor pans underneath are perfect as can been seen in the photos. Soft top is the original 1972 top, so could do with replacing - but the soft top frame and mechanism is perfect. Wheels are aftermarket Western Wheel alloys, all four tires are old and could do with replacing. Hard top is black, fully functional, and needs refinishing. Original colour is black interior, original colour is Saffron Yellow exterior. The car is about a 50/50 split of original paint and rubbed-down primer - it's never been resprayed. The trunk lid is a largely rust-free replacement, but you're welcome to take the original trunk lid as well (it's rusted along the rear edge). Clear WA title. Car is in Saint Helens, OR (zip 97051) and must be picked up within seven days of auction end. I'm happy to assist with storage or transport if required, I just need a little bit more of my driveway back. I'd recommend trailering or towing this car away, as it hasn't really been on the road since the mid 1980s - it'll drive onto a trailer just fine! I'm more than happy to answer questions - Triumphs are an obsession of mine, particularly Stags. I've had many over the years, and this is one of the most original I've ever seen. With a proper paint job it'd be an excellent show car, and I'll be sorry to see it go.
