Vehicle Detail

1999 Mercedes SLK 230 convertible This is my personal car, not some car off of a dealer's lot with unknown problems. I am selling ONLY to buy a car for my soon to be 16 year old daughter. I'd like to keep it but can't justify too many cars in the family. It is a TON of fun to drive and ready to be driven anywhere. My daughter would really like for me to keep the car for her, but a new driver has no business with a supercharged, 5 speed convertible. This car is extremely fast, handles very well and still gets 30mpg on the highway. I've owned more Porsche's than I can count and this car is more fun than any of them. If you don't like attention, this car is not for you. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan, and therefore do not have time to fix the minor items wrong with the car before selling. As I said, I'd like to sell the car as-is and buy a car for my daughter. The reserve is MUCH less than what I have invested in the car to sell quickly. If for some reason reserve is not met, I will not re-list the car but rather keep it for myself and hide the keys from my daughter. MECHANICALS: 98,000 miles on the original 2.3 liter 4 cylinder supercharged engine, 5 speed manual transmission. The engine runs extremely well with no leaks, noises, problems, etc. I just drove the car around town all last week while home in the states and had a smile on my face the whole time. My wife has been driving it to work this week and enjoying the top down. The previous owner ran synthetic oil and I've continued that tradition. Upgraded AMG aluminum rims with near new 17" tires all the way around. A/C worked almost all summer but has recently started blowing warm air. I don't know what's wrong with it and not home to fix it. Car will likely have a few more miles on it before you pick it up as it's still being driven around some. I replaced the blower for the heat/air last spring, replaced brake pads, serviced engine/trans and made sure the car was safe to drive. As I said above, I'd drive the car anywhere with no hesitation at all. BODY: Car was in a previous accident years ago and repainted after that. The paint job is lousy but would probably look a lot better if it were wet sanded and buffed out. Top works flawlessly and the engineering of the top never ceases to amaze me. Both rear view mirrors are fogged, but the glass shop said it's only $15 for new glass. The car had a salvage title after the accident, but now has a clear title after being repaired. INTERIOR: Nice leather heated seats, nice factory stereo with 10 disk CD changer in trunk, power mirrors, power top, etc. Painted parts of interior have paint peeling (common problem with these cars), power locks don't work, and airbag light is on. There are several kits sold to repaint the interior pieces where the red paint is peeling. As for the other "problems", I haven't investigated any of these problems - as said above, I'm stationed in Afghanistan and just don't have the time. TERMS of sale: $1000 deposit through PayPal within 48 hours of auction close, full payment in 10 days. Final payment can be cash at time of pickup, cashier's check, wire, etc. HOWEVER, due to fraudulent cashier's checks, do not show up with a check and think you're going to drive the car home. The payment needs to clear before the car leaves. I have clear title to the car and my wife has power of attorney to sign it over to you. Buyer is responsible for transportation/shipping of car. If you want to fly into Memphis and drive the car home, my wife will gladly pick you up at the airport and you can drive the car home. If you want to have it shipped, that's fine too but it will need to be coordinated by you. Bottom line - you will never find a more fun car to drive without spending a LOT more money. On the highway, you'll get 30mpg and it's impossible to go through a corner slow in this car. Mechanically, I would not hesitate to drive this car ANYWHERE!
