Vehicle Detail

1986 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible First year of convertible for Saab, only 350 made worldwide! Recent Ownership: It was a daily driver for a few years, for my wife, who came from a family that had been loyal to Saab brand for 20+ years with many of them in the family, and bought this one in 2002 from a certified Saab repair shop in Lancaster PA. The Saab shop made the professional conversion from automatic to 5-speed manual transmission shortly before she bought it. It had a classic tag on it for the last five years after she bought a new Saab and we kept this one for a pleasure cruiser because it was a convertible. It saw about 150 miles a year since the classic tag was put on it; was garaged based on classic insurance guidelines. Knowing that this vehicle was a classic with only 350 made worldwide, we had a Saab specialist shop in Pheonixville, PA do a load of work on it in June of 2008 to keep it in good mechanical shape, since I though it would be a good investment. But it did not pass a June 2009 inspection at my local shop because the unibody had some bad rust spots, and said it wouldn’t pass. My mechanic said that the areas could be patched “by someone who wants to make a project out of it”, but a second mechanic that I had look at it thought that it wasn’t worth doing, since a similar rust effect is occurring on other seams of the frame, so I am placing it up for auction as a parts/project car to recoup some of the parts cost that we put into it. My hope is that someone can repair the unibody and perserve its status as 1 of 350 total built, rather than scrap it. Additional Features: Carrol Shelby SAAB rims and Michelin 195/60R15 tires. (decent shape) Black convertible top. [Fair condition, no holes, but needs waterproofing to stop any wicking of water through it] Newer repairs/parts: genuine Saab stuff [spent $3k on the following in Summer of 2008]: CV joints, New alternator, all new ball joints, thremostat and flush of system; replaced rear brakes; new starter motor; replaced battery; electrical items fixed; Replacement of alternator 2007 and exhaust system in 2005 A/C works great Have custom canvas car cover and repair manual to go with it. Working AM/FM CD player Known Issues: Rusted unibody seams around some areas under trunk; Hole developing above rear tire wells at shock mounts, and holes in unibody near front struts. Broken power radio antenna. Battery drain problem, so I keep the battery disconnected. I believe it is linked to the interior lights staying on, so probably a bad door switch. Hydraulic leak in power convertible top hose, which is an easy fix. Developed a leak in the power brake pump hose by the reservior last year. We have all receipts during ownership. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for any questions, or any other photos that you may want of it. Car would need to be trailered, since out of inspection. I could possibly arrange delivery within a reasonable radius of Southeastern PA for extra cost. Thanks for visiting!
