Vehicle Detail
1941 CADILLAC SIXTY SPECIAL Absolute Perfection - One of the very finest in existance With its new crisp design, unique treatment of the beltline, and the disappearance of the of its running boards (though concealed or optional as a no-cost option on Series 61 - 63 body styles for die-hards), the 1941 Cadillac was an instant hit and has remained one of the most desirable American motorcars of all time. With cutting edge styling that would influence the next generation of GM cars, the 1941 Cadillac was the last year of custom-built models. It was also the last year buyers could select from a wide range of interiors, standard and non-standard exteriors, or custom touches to otherwise standard models. 1941 was also the last full year of peacetime production until 1946. The Series Sixty-Special Fleetwood was re-introduced in 1941 as Cadillac's elite model, designed to meet buyer's most discriminating needs and desires. Many Fleetwoods were “highly personalized” as the factory would still install special interiors on request for an extra charge. My 1941 is model 6109S - Fleetwood's 5-passanger Touring “Special” Sedan. She's been meticulously restored per the Cadillac-LaSalle Club Authenticity Manual and guidelines right down to the perfectly done, correctly porcelain coated three-section manifold. The high degree of detail in this restoration is incredible. Engine is a date-correct (but not the car's original) 346 CID,150 HP 90º L-Head 8 cylinder engine with its correct high compression head and Stromberg carburetor. The engine starts and runs as new and is coupled with the car's original Selective Syncro 3-speed manual transmission, which works perfectly. Note the attention to detail; even the choke stove is authentically insulated with woven fiber to insulate and retain heat. The entire engine bay is correct, right down to the firewall color; the color of the engine block, relays covers, regulator and horns. In 1941 no engines came from the factory with oil filters but Fram and others offered dealer-installed aftermarket units as ours has. Truly our '41 Fleetwood was restored to compete against the very best under judged-show rules and scrutiny. The underneath is fully restored and well detailed with the frame correctly painted in “chassis black” as is the car's metal underbody. The wheel wells are semi-gloss front and rear and the front wheels are properly equipped with factory splash guards. The rubber body mounts are as new as are the insulating cushions between the radiator support, center-frame, springs, rear axle and other connecting points. The front coil springs and multileaf rear springs are firm and indicate no sag or wear, which provides for a functionally new suspension. In combination with its perfect power train, this car rides and drives like new! Power brakes were not available in 1941. Inspection shows the standard hydraulic 12” units as new with no apparent fade and no cylinder leakage. The front dust seals and corresponding shields function correctly. And our Fleetwood's 7.00-15 Firestone Deluxe Champion wide white wall tries are virtually new - including the spare with its complete jack and full tool set and mounted in a lined trunk. Note the optional wheel discs that elegantly fit inside the wheel rim. 1941 was the first year for self-canceling turn signals on Cadillacs and they work as new, as do all the exterior and interior lights, optional back up light, auxiliary lights, gauges, dual horns, vacuum wipers, optional heater with defrost, radio with vacuum-powered antenna, and clock. Window cranks and doors locks work as new. The cowl vent works with the push of its lever. By early 1942 chrome was severally curtailed and completely banned in some cases in support of the war effort. Our Series-Sixty Special is loaded with chrome and each piece is show-quality. Even the Cadillac Crest, ornamentation and hubcap medallion are authentically restored and gorgeous! All glass is clear and blemish-free. The working windshield system was optional. Seals and gaskets are as new. The included driver's and passenger outside mirrors were both optional. The all metal body has been meticulously restored, with very careful fitment that resulted in exact margins and uniform seams. The coach work show as original and virtually flawless. During restoration our Caddy received a complete color change from its original Gun Metal Gray (#54) to Valcour Maroon Metallic (#59); another of Cadillac's fine color choices in 1941. The new paint is deep, lustrous, pure and virtually perfect - although perhaps a tad deeper and more pure (less cloudy) than Valcor Maroon Metallic was known to be. Included is the optional painted pin strip along the beltline. The exterior has recently been meticuolously color sanded and the entire finish is like a mirror.....absolutely breathtaking. Take a look at the interior with its plush, flawless Maroon chain pattern cloth, robe cord, chrome accents, recessed rear foot rest. The carpeting is as new; with sewn in heal protector, a rubber grommet around the dimmer switch and bound edges. There are courtesy lights along the lower front edge of the rear seat. Gaze on the real wood garnish moldings along the window sills and elegantly hand-grained dash, accented by the deluxe steering wheel. Top all that off with Cadillac's first automatic heating system; just set it and forget it! Ours works as new but it's a little primitive compared to today's versions. This car also has the optional day-night mirror too! This is a premium show car that can also be enjoyed on those special occasions. If your collection lacks a fine Cadillac, this one is sure to take your stable to a whole new level. Two small knobs by the hand brake turn on and off optional accessory lights. The "B" knob turns on the back-up/reverse light. The "F" knob turns on the orange fog lights. Because of a very lucrative real estate purchase, am selling a few cars to bolster my cash reserves. The photos show a essentially flawless car and it is actually this way when you see it in person. My reserve is reasonable considering how difficult it is to find a car like this with all aspects of it in proper condition and which can be considered a very well maintained and detailed original car. I've owned dozens of classic cars and bought and sold many of them here on ebay. Please check my feedback and how pleased the buyers of my cars have been. I have clear title in my name with no leinnholder. My guess is that this car could be driven comfortable across the country...but of course old cars can surprise you! You are welcome to come and review the car which is here in my garage. Please do not ask to view the car unless you are willing to pay the buy it now price and have the cash immediately available. That is not to say you must buy the car...just that you feel the value is correct and have the funds available. Click on ANY photo to load 7 MegaPixel original image.
