Vehicle Detail

1999 Chevy (Geo) Metro 129k Miles 3 Cylinder 3 Door (hatchback) 5 Speed Ultra High Gas Mileage Virtually No Rust I have a 1999 Metro (it's badged as a Chevy, but it's exactly the same car as a Geo Metro). It's got 129k miles on it, and is in good condition. The body has virtually no rust on it -- very rare, these cars are very light and tend to rot out. I can't find a rust hole anywhere on it, and there is only the most minor surface rust on a few sections of the underbody, and you have to look to see those. This is the 3-cylinder, 3-door (two doors with hatchback and fold-down rear seats), 5-speed manual transmission, ultra good gas mileage model. I bought it in spring of 2008 as gas prices climbed. When gas hit $4.50/gal, I felt like a genius. I measured the gas mileage, and the car got mid to high 30s in town, 40s on the highway driving at 70mph, and if you held it at 55mph, it got an honest-to-goodness 53mpg. I then gave it to my son when he went to UMass. He now needs a bigger car, so I'm selling it. The car is cute and the paint is a pretty color; it's metallic green with a gray cloth interior. The exterior has one small dent and scrape in the left rear quarter panel. The interior is nearly perfect. The brakes, battery, alternator, and muffler are new, and the rest of the exhaust is recent. It has two brand new front tires and two recent rear tires. I also have a pair of Blizzak snow tires on separate rims that I'll throw in with the sale. The car is not perfect. I don't believe the windshield washer is working. The car has air conditioning but it does not currently work. All the major components are there, but I believe the previous owner said that the compressor pulley and belt aren't mounted. The blower motor only works on high (this usually means the resistor pack needs to be changed). There is an emissions-related part between the carburetor and the intake manifold called the Early Fuel Evaporation (EFE) heater that isn't working, and thus sets off the check engine light, but it can be fooled by substituting a simple light bulb with the same 1 ohm resistance for the heater (I've always gotten it through inspection this way). The key once got stuck in the lock in the rear hatch, and my son in his impatience wound up pulling the lock out of the hatch door. I have oiled up the hatch lock and it now works fine. I will install it when it stops raining out. But that's about it. It starts right up, runs fine, and gets unbelievably good gas mileage. My son drove it from Boston to New York to Amherst and called me and said "Dad, I think I used only about seventeen bucks in fuel." Short of a Prius, you can't beat that. There are enthusiasts who are very into these cars. I won't guarantee the car, but I would say that both my son and I were driving it all over the place. I used it to take him to a college interview nearly 200 miles away, so that gives you an idea of its basic reliability. The car has the original in-dash stereo radio. It had a CD changer at some point in its life, and the wired control for it is still in the console, but the changer itself must've been removed. I've checked "air bag" instead of "dual air bag." I'll double-check that tomorrow when it isn't pouring outside. That's about it. I'll answer any other questions. I've posted photos of the underside of the car showing how incredibly solid it is. I'll need a $200 deposit within 48 hours (or immediately if you do Buy It Now). I'll need the balance within a week by bank check, and I'll wait for it to clear before you can pick up the car. NO INTERNATIONAL SALES. On Aug-25-10 at 15:20:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Car has dual (driver and passenger) front airbags. On Aug-28-10 at 05:51:44 PDT, seller added the following information: I do have this car advertised locally, and thus reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.
