Vehicle Detail

Electric Vehicle - Solectria Metro1991 Geo Metro Solectria electric vehicle up for sale (Converted to electric in 1993). This great car runs on 100% electric power (not a hybrid). All it needs new batteries, and perhaps new charger (details below). This car was professionally converted into an electric vehicle by the Solectria Corporation of Massachusetts. It is a fairly advanced electric vehicle, as it has a 28hp AC induction motor with regenerative braking (it makes electricity for the battery pack as the vehicle slows down when driving). I've owned and driven this vehicle for several years, though the vehicle has spent the last three years garaged as it's needed new batteries for that long. It's a fantastic environmentally friendly commuter car, and has an advertised range of up to 50 miles per charge. My experience (with smaller batteries than recommended that I installed) was less, especially with the hills of Vermont. I would recommend going around 20 miles between charges to have the best long term battery life. It's a real simple car - no oil changes or much maintenance at all! It is a 2 seater (part of the reason I have to sell - a baby on the way and not much room for a car seat). 2 new front tires. Garaged winters, very little rust. Takes 12 batteries.... 8 are housed in the back seat area, and 4 are housed under the hood. Easily gets up to 60-65 mph on flats and downhills, though the car can slow a fair amount on sustained uphills. Great yahoo group of Solectria owners full of useful information: http://autos.dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/solectria_ev/ Major Needs: New batteries - takes 12 batteries 8g27 gel deep cycle recommended - recent quote of $2500 for the batteries. New Charger - current charger works but newer model would prolong battery life.... Current charger plugs into a regular 115 volt outlet and takes about 8 hours to fully charge. New NG3 Zivan Charger quoted at $1020. Other Issues: Hatchback latch doesn't catch all the time, and lifters a bit weak. A few dings and dents here and there, otherwise paint in great shape. Side mirror loose and may need repair. Call or email to set up a time to look at the car.... Unfortunately the batteries it has now are dead, so you can't go for a test drive. But I can walk you through the details and show you all the cool features of this awesome car. Will help load if you want it shipped to your location. Eli @ 802.238.3567 or email.
