Vehicle Detail
For auction is a 1948 Chevy Fleetline, one of the most popular designs marketed by Chevrolet at the time, and one of the most rarely seen cars today. This particular car was my father’s fun car, and he spent quite a bit of time and effort turning this into a good cruiser for a Saturday night. It is a mild custom or resto-rod, combining the best of the sleek body with a relatively modern drivetrain. The body is a straight and unaltered 1948 Chevy, but with an aging custom paint job. All the trim originally on the car is still there, and the window glass is all original. Under the hood is a mid-‘70s Chevy 350 V8, completely rebuilt in the late 90s. It is a very responsive engine. It is coupled to 350 Turbo-Hydramatic featuring a floormounted shift. The original torque-tube drive was replaced by a modern driveshaft, which is hooked to a modern gear-set in the differential. The front drum brakes were replaced by disc brakes, and feature Fatman drop-spindles to lower the front an inch or so. However, the front suspension is unaltered and has not been sub-framed. The original, rebuilt Knee-Action shocks are still being used, as is the original steering gear. The tires are radial with Chevy Bowtie truck hubcaps. The electrical system has been changed to a 12-volt system, with the battery mounted in the trunk. The spare tire is now a modern mini-spare. An AM/FM/Cassette player is mounted in the glovebox. Seatbelts were added for safety, as were Yankee turnsignals, mounted on the steering column. A set of full gauges (water temp., ammeter, oil pressure) has been added below the dash. The clock is the original wind-up clock, and works fine. Downside points: the glass needs replacing, with new gaskets/grommets. There are chips in the paint. The original radio is still intact, but inoperative. The fuel gauge recently conked out. The windshield wipers are the original vacuum wipers, and need refurbishment or replacement. Also not that the headliner needs replacing (water stains and pulls/tears). While the speedometer functions, the odometer does not. I am happy to provide additional photographs or answer specific questions about this car. All in all, this is a great driving, powerful Chevrolet, in need of a good home and some cosmetic attention. It can be driven any distance without worry. It has a good, clean Missouri title. I am not a dealer, but a hobbyist who simply loves old cars. I have tried to be complete and accurate in my description, but if the prospective buyer has any questions, or would like to see any part of the vehicle in more detail, I am happy to oblige. There is no warranty, implied or otherwise, and the buyer will have to arrange for and pay for any necessary shipping. The car is sold as is, where is. The car must be picked up within 30 days of end of the auction. I will only sell to actual real people with only positive ratings. The winning buyer will send 10% of the final price as a non-refundable down-payment within 5 working days of the end of the auction, payable by personal check, USPS Money Order, or bank check. The balance will be due within 14 days, and no later than the day when the car is picked up. I will accept only US Dollars in the form of a certified bank check or cashier’s check in the exact amount for the balance, or cash, if buyer is picking the car up in person. The title will not be signed over or sent until all monetary transactions are complete. A bill of sale will be provided if required by the buyer.
