Vehicle Detail
Here is a solid and very reliable IH Scout Traveler ready for daily driving or off-roading. It is an original scout with little or no modifications other than aftermarket radio and aftermarket sideview mirrors. The original paint is still very presentable and has a good level of shine left to it but the white stripes have some cracking in them and could probably be replaced (they were all of a stick-on application from the factory on these Scouts). The body is very solid as is the undercarriage. The only hint of any rust is some minor bubbling around the drivers rear fender. Also there is a very small dent/ding in the rear corner of the drivers side (which can be seen in the picture). It could probably be pulled out with paintless dent removal equipment. Mechanically it is excellent. The engine starts right up and is very responsive and does not smoke at all. The transmission is quiet and shifts perfectly smooth. Power steering and brakes work great. I've owned this truck for about 4 1/2 years and have not had to do one thing to it other than oil changes and regular maintenance. Even after sitting for a few months this truck always starts right up and runs like a top. It has a small lift kit which the previous owner had put on but i've never taken it off road (and i don't think he did either as he said it was more for appearance purposes). The lift kit was professionally installed and it handles very well at highway speeds. The tires were put on by the previous owner but appear to have very few miles on them as they look brand new. The seats are original and have some fading but are otherwise in pretty good condition. The carpet was probably replaced by the previous owner because it looks a little too new and nice for a truck that has 112kmiles on it. Also included is the original owners manual and the original sales brochure. Original unmolested Scouts are becoming harder and harder to find. This is an excellent choice for the off-road collector who wants a solid and reliable turnkey original example of IH's tough and rugged SUV from the '70's. This vehicle is priced to sell with a modest reserve as i am downsizing my collection. Please contact me first if you have negative or zero feedback. Good luck bidding! The windshield has a pencil eraser sized stone chip. The seats are original and have some fading but are otherwise in pretty good condition with the exception of some stretching to a row of stitching on the passenger seat. Its all original and actually in very good condition. Good shine and no rust. Same goes for the metal on the lower body molding trim piece that runs all the way down each side. I believe this may be one of the last years that IH was still using real metal on that trim piece and it is in very good original condition. I have a '80 Traveler and that same molding uses an applied plastic trim piece in place of the metal.
