Vehicle Detail
1990 Saab SPG -900 Turbo. 180,000 miles. 5 spd manual. One owner, always dealer or specialist maintained. Vehicle got retired due to onset of rust typical here in the Northeast. Vehicle will not pass state inspection, nor should it be driven until certain repairs are performed. However, this car is too nice to crush or part out. Rare model becoming rarer by the day and mechanically very, very good. The good: - Beautiful engine and transmission. Engine idles rock steady, no smoke at any time. Plenty of power. Relatively dry for a 20 year old Saab - some seepages here and there, but nothing really that needs attention. Transmission is fantastic. No pinion or other noise in any gears. Positive, grindless engagement of every gear up shifting and down shifting. Does not pop out of reverse. -Intact SPG body kit, no pieces missing. Four straight SPG rims. -Tires are Dunlop Signatures with 9/32 tread in front and 6/32 tread in rear. -Relatively new cat-back exhaust The bad: -Needs rust repair in right front jack support, a-arm area and front fenders. I have done these repairs before. They are feasible, but as with any rust repair, time consuming and messy. -The steering rack leaks -The parking brake does not work. Cables look good. Calipers need replacement. -The A/C does not work. Tensioner pulley seized. Easy fix. Already converted to R134a. -Paint on the roof, hood and hatch have pine sap on them. -The LF window needs the switch cleaned and the RF window needs the motor and regulator lubricated. Like I said, I cannot recommend driving the car the way it is. I just took it for a ride so that I could accurately describe the transmission. It is a very worthy project or a hugely helpful donor car with a very strong drivetrain.
