Vehicle Detail
1996 Honda Magna with 1997 Honda Interceptor Motor! I have for sale a very special Honda Magna. It is a 1996 Magna with thousands of dollars in cusomizations including a 1997 VFR750F Interceptor Motor. This isn't your typical Magna. It's the bike that Honda never built, but should have. My goal with this bike was to build a sleeper, so in 2008 I took a perfectly ridable, non-damaged, clear-title donor Magna that was getting up in miles, and reworked it to create this performance-breathing beast. It retains the stock look and OEM reliability by using Honda OEM parts. Any competent Honda mechanic will be able to work on this bike in case of troubles. It's faster and more comfortable than a stock Magna while retaining the bike's legendary handling and agility. This bike looks so good it makes brand new Hondas look bad! The motor build requires rewiring the entire bike. The wiring was laid out and done with meticulous care over 4-5 weeks. Everything works...all of the indicator lights and corresponding sensors were retained and work great. I've put about 7,000 miles on the bike since the new engine. The odometer now indicated 53,000 miles. Here is a partial list of customizations: - 1997 vfr750f engine and carbs (retained Magna heads for OEM exhaust setup, retained Magna carb funnels which are tuned to the air box) - Vance & Hines side cut exhaust - Dynojet jet kit in the VFR carbs - K & N filter - dyno tuned on a Factory Pro Dyno with 4 gas sensor (I rode 400 miles one way for this) Benefits of the VFR motor and ignition system are similar to benefits of a hot rod engine in a car: - gear-driven cams for durablility (no chains) - 90 degree crank instead of 180 degree for smoother running (this means a piston fires every 90 degrees of rotation instead of the stock Magna's 180 degrees) - higher compression ratio pistions - 6 speed transmission as opposed to 5 - higher redline - vfr wiring a) allows use of CBR performance stick-type ignition coils for durability and more power b) has headlight relays where stock Magna does not c) allowed relocation of the AC rectifier to a cooler location - this is a common failure item on the Magna - they overheat and cook d) more flexible for expansion - there's an available power source under the seat for accessories I've built 2 of these Interceptor-Magna motors, and they are awesome! The additional power provides an exciting ride and makes this bike a definite sleeper. The motor looks stock due to the use of the Magna's chrome covers. You have to get on the ground and look for the oil cooler lines in front to know it's from an interceptor. This bike has been super reliable; I've never had any trouble with this engine - it's been nothing but a pleasure and gets 36-46 mpg depending on riding style. Here is a list of aftermarket parts on the bike: - Mustang Seat (very comfortable) - Custom bright LED rear light and license plate bracket - VTX1300C shocks - VTX1300C mirrors - custom forward controls with Kuryakyn pegs - braided stainless steel control cables - braided stainless steel speedo cable - T bars - show chrome switch housings - chrome fat levers - custom headlight - aftermarket chrome bullet style signals - chrome brake fluid reservoir cover - chrome radiator cover - Show Chrome front brake caliper cover - Kuryakyn grips with matching bar ends - iron horse tank cover In addition is has: - brand new front forks with progressive springs - new battery - new rectifier (I also relocated it for improved cooling) - recent tires - new hoses - recent DID Gold Premium X-Ring drive chain The paint needs wet sanded and polished for a perfect show-quality shine, and there is an inch or so scratch in the clearcoat on the tank from when I was installing the T bars. I have the tank decals and will include them in the auction. I will also include the Honda workshop manuals for the 1994-2003 VF750C Magna and the 1994-1997 VFR750F Interceptor. The title is clear and marked mileage exempt due to it's age and the fact that the mileage indicated does not reflect the motor build. I am a hobby mechanic and have been for 20 years. I guess you could say this bike was an obsession. It's time to move to the next one...
