Vehicle Detail
I bought this car about four years ago with the intent of restoring it. I really just lost interest in this car. I already have a 1966 Spitfire and just recently got a Miata. So, I need to make some room in the barn. I have been driving it to work the last few days. It sounds wonderful, runs through the gears up and down flawlessly. Cruises well on the interstate at about 65 mph. I am sure it can handle more, but that is about the speed I like to drive Spitfires. It does not burn or blow oil. Starts easily even after sitting for a few weeks. When I got the car, it had a lot of rust in the gas tank, so I replaced it with one from a donor car. I do recommend switching to an electric fuel pump later. Much easier on the battery for starting on cold mornings. This car does have the typical rust issues, especially on the floor pans. I have some sheet metal plates covering those bad areas. There are several areas on the car where there are small rust pits. Looks like previous owner had used bondo over a few areas near the back fender and doors. It does need the front side marker lights, and left turn signal needs some trouble shooting. Tires are in good shape. The mileage on odometer reads 23,336. I am assuming that is 123,336, but I really have no idea. Speedometer works, tachometer not so good. The top is in fair condition. You can see out the back window, but it does need replaced. I have owned and driven Spitfires since 1977. They are easy to work on and parts are readily available through Victoria British. I am pitching this as a father son or daughter project car. The fact that it is running great right now is a huge plus. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like.
