Vehicle Detail
1969 Triumph Spitfire convertible in excellent condition for a 40 plus year old British sports car as far as the body and frame are concerned. I have been a British car nut since I was a boy. Being from Ohio usually the ones I found were rust buckets and not even worth the time and cost of a restoration project but we fixed them up and drove them anyway. They were so much fun!!!. I found this car in Orlando from a guy I work with. He bought it from an estate in Naples and it has been in Florida for 30 plus years. The title is from 1979 and is very old, Florida has changet their titles 3 times since than. The old man who owned it according to his son loved these cars and had several over the years. The car is very solid and seems to have the original driveline and is pretty unmolested except for some wiring issues which we all know electric was a common thing for British Leyland cars. The body was painted about 3 years ago in Old English white the original color was green. The frame, floor pans, trunk and everything else is very clean with only very slight surface rust. The car runs!!! The fuel tank was empty and had rust so I removed it and hooked up a fuel bottle and the car fired right up. It could use a little carb work but if I did everything there would not be any fun left for you!!! The transmission pulls in all the gears so I don't think there are any issues there. So to sum it up the car needs a little TLC and an interior. I have 2 seat frames for a Spitfire but not sure what year they came from, a good top frame that is complete and tight at all the pivot points and some other assorted trim and misc.parts that go with the car as well. Overall a car worth restoring and most of the body and paint work already done. Heres the kicker!!! When I bought the car the guy told me it was a 65 and the title says 65 but after doing some investigating I realized the dash and other things like bumpers and lights the car was really a 69 MKIII. So I have contacted the Triumph Registary hoping that from the engine number which I assume to be the original (it has the 1296cc engine which has 4 intake ports after that they went to the 1493cc which had a longer stroke but lost performance because of emission requirements. That I can track the original vin number from the engine number, transmission number and the rear dif number through the British Motors Heritage Trust) So I can not say for sure if the car's title issue can be corrected or not. If you are willing to jump through a few hoops and I can get the title signed off from the son of the estate (assuming the vin search shows the same original owner) we can get a title. I assume he had several titles and just gave the guy the wronge one. I talked to him and he remembered selling the car but did not know if there were any other titles in the file. He said he looked at it and it said Spitfire and just assumed that was it. So if your up for a challenge and feel the car is worth getting back on the road I will be happy to help in any way I can to get the title issue resolved but please understand there are no guarantees. (These cars are a thing of the past, a piece of history in the automobile industry and when ever possible should be restored and passed on for our kids and grandkids to enjoy.) I am offering this car at a no reserve auction since I have to many projects going on right now. i am not as worried about the money but do want to make sure the car makes it to the right hands.
