Up for auction is my unique and rare '60 Opel Caravan. These are nearly impossible to find in any condition but rarely found in this "survivor type" original condition. These little wagons are sometimes compared to the Chevy Nomad and also have a Buick Century look from the grill and the sweeping side trim. This Opel has the original three-on-the column and 1.5 4-cyl. 51 HP engine. Definately not a speed demon but will cruise at 50-60-mph. The engine and transmission we're removed last fall and freshened up. The valves and seats we're re-ground. The engine was cleaned of all grease and re-assembled with new seals and gaskets and re-painted in the original Opel gray/blue color. Radiator was checked/cleaned & repainted. Transmission was cleaned/checked & repainted. All was re-installed with new clutch disc, pressure plate & throwout bearing. New U-joints in drive-shaft. Fuel tank was removed, cleaned and Red-Koted. Fuel line was removed & cleaned and re-installed with new fuel pump. All hoses, fan belt, battery & cables, spark plugs & wires, cap, rotor, points & condenser replaced with new. The original carburetor, starter & generator we're re-built (still 6-Volt as original). The shocks we're replaced. All brake lines removed and cleaned. Master cylinder and all (6) wheel cylinders we're rebuilt. All (3) rubber brake hoses we're re-placed with new. The exhaust system has new muffler and tailpipe. This Opel now starts, runs, shifts, drives & stops smoothly & quietly! All systems on this car work as new; Temp. guage, fuel guage, clock, gen. & oil lites, high beam indicator, graph style spedometer, original dealer installed Motorola AM radio, headlites, tail-lites, brake -lites, dome lamp, reverse lites, windshield wiper and foot operated washers, cigarette lighter. All (5) tires are new Coker BF Goodrich 6.40-13" belted wide whitewalls as came on car originally! (less than 1200 miles on them) The interior is all original except for the carpet which I added. It is showing very little wear-even the original headliner is near flawless! The original rubber floormat in the cargo area is in nice condition except for some light scrapes and a couple of cracks. I've included a picture of the cargo area without the mat to show the original and perfect condition of the floor/green paint. The dash is beautiful with it's original turquoise green paint and original gold olympia trim. Somehow this all survived with no scrapes or scratches! As for the exterior, the frame and floorboards are rust-free and nice. The rocker panels and drivers side front fender had some rust which was repaired and followed with complete paint job in the original turquoise color. It was done by a local Maaco paint shop. The body work was OK-They cut out the rust and used fiberglass and body filler in the bad areas. The color match is very good. It could stand a buffing & waxing. The original paint on top the car was near perfect and the white portion under the luggage rack was left original. All of the trim including the luggage rack is aluminum and is in nice shiny condition. The chrome bumpers and emblems are somewhat pitted but still look good and have nice original patina. All glass in the car is perfect with no chips, cracks, wiper streaks etc. The car comes as shown with the (5) original hubcaps and original owner's manual, shop manuals, dealer brochures, jack and magazine ads from 1960.
