Vehicle Detail
I purchased this Coveted two-door Starlight coupe, designed by famed Industrial Designer Raymond Loewy, from a Studebaker/Avanti mechanic in Anaheim California. Though registered as a 1947...it is more probably a 1948. The car ran perfectly when I purchased it…and runs perfectly today, other than a slight pull on the front right brakes (which disappears when you pump the brakes). The Mechanic adapted the vehicle so that it comfortably uses present-day 87 grade gas.. I’ve driven the car less than two hundred miles in the last two years and the only work I’ve done is having the front seats and door panels reupholstered in exactly the style of the original. I have all the interior (original) pieces for the unrestored back seat and back side panels. Gas, battery and heat guages work perfectly. The original rims have been painted yellow by the last owner and the hubcaps are historically accurate, but I do not think they're original. I have three of the four thin chrome rim rings. The odometer is stuck at 87554. The speedometer works. There’s no headliner, BUT ALL THE RIBS are there. I have a spare NOS gas pedal… There’s the original in-dash radio…..non-working. All knobs are original. All the knobs are original all the door and window handles are there. The driver’s door opens from the outside only. The driver’s door window doesn’t go all the way up. (4 inches from top) The driver’s side mirror has a temp convex mirror in the original housing. THE CAR IS A SURVIVOR CAR…with no restoration to the exterior which is all there, solid steel…all the pieces are there…but they clearly show their age. Chrome is pitted, paint faded. I’ve purchased another vehicle and must make room for it. The car is registered, insured, and totally legal. ALSO INCLUDED: Spare original trunk chrome piece. Patinaed like rest of car (The one on the car has the right wing missing) Two spare original weathered chrome front fender pieces. The original steer wheel horn rim with intact original plastic Studebaker logo in center. (needs to be screwed on) A spare tail light assembly. Two spare original turn signal lights for the front. A thrashed original interior strap. A bag of misc. bolts and small stuff off the car. Original 1947 Studebaker magazine ads, copies of the drawing from the Studebaker museum of the back window (starlight window), period snapshots of people I don’t know with their Studes… The car is a classic and it’s been fun having it. There is no warranty on this vehicle. I reserve the right to withdraw the car from auction if the the car is sold locally. REVISION::::::::::::A STUDE EXPERT INFORMS ME, YES, THE CAR DOES HAVE OVERDRIVE. THANKS STUDENUT.
