Vehicle Detail

RARE AWARD WINNING 1980 Triumph TR7 Spider Along Came a Spider... I have a special edition Triumph TR7 Spider model built in June 1980. This is a 2 owner car and is all original with only 66,654 miles. The original owner cared for this vehicle like a child. It is virtually new and is in pretty close to perfect condition. It has won awards both in 1984 and 1985 at the All British Field Meet. Back Story The car was purchased from the original owner (a Triumph Collector) who had sold off all of his other Triumph's prior to his recent death. This ugly duckling was the only one left, at which point it became a moral responsibility to take, care for, and sell. The one condition was we had to find an individual with the passion, appreciation, and ability to carry on the legacy of care that this car had and continues to be given. History The TR7 Spider came in just one color: black. The glossy black paint, which some say is the highest quality paint job ever applied to a TR7 or TR8, is set off by the special red reflective decals and full-length pinstriping. The word “Spider” appears on the rear quarters and trunk, The Triumph laurel wreath on the nose and the “TR7” on the trunk are also done in red reflective material. On the inside, the TR7 Spider came with a special two tone interior that Austin Powers would surely find groovy. The carpet is pewter colored semi-shag and the seats are upholstered in gray cloth that features black racing stripes. There’s a TR8 steering wheel and TR8 alloy wheels for good measure. All TR7 Spiders came standard with air conditioning and an AM/FM cassette radio. Bosch Pilot front fog lights and a stainless steel luggage rack were optional. The TR7 Spider was manufactured in British Leyland’s Solihull plant, where Land Rovers, Range Rovers and the Rover 3500 were assembled. These were the first Triumphs built at Solihull before all TR production was transferred there from Triumph’s home in Canley, Coventry in the summer of 1980. It is at the Solihull factory where the TR7 and TR8’s quality improved dramatically. No one is quite sure how many Spiders were made. Some say the number is 1, 208 with less then 125 still available. However, in his book “Triumph in America,” Mike Cook, former British Leyland public relations executive, and well-known Triumph historian, says around 2,000 Spiders were made. In either case, the Spider is even rarer than the TR8. There are not many Spiders left. Based on the cars I’ve seen for sale, most of the surviving Spiders no longer have their original upholstery or their unique decals. Though the TR7 isn’t the most desirable TR in the series, the Spider has become quite collectible. Now YOU have the chance to own what must be one of the lowest mileage, most original examples left. These cars are very rare and are going up rapdily every year. This is your chance to have some fun, enjoy rapid appreciation and go to car shows/parades to show off your ride. Specifics Since owning the car I have: • Replaced front brake rotors and pads • installed automatic fan clutch and brand new water pump • All brand new belts • Brand new spark plugs • Engine Mount perfect There are some minor oil leaks, but hey, the car is 30 years old. ? fuel cover ? shifter ? carburetor ? gas pump ? a/c compress The Electrical System: All I can say is that every switch, light, lamp, buzzer works to perfection with the exception of the boot light, the quartz clock, and the radio which simply just need a fuse replaced ( as a bonus, I even have a totally brand new custom classic looking radio built specifically for this TR7). The car comes with an aftermarket bra for the front valence and an original owners Manuel. The caralsoits original California issued period blue license plates. Mechanical: Well let’s just say that there are NO MECHANICAL ISSUES, NONE to be found. I don’t think that I have ever seen as nice of a car as this one. This car runs and drives amazingly well for a 30 year old. The 5-speed transmission, clutch and brakes, work to perfection. There are no issues with car other than what I disclosed here. In its present condition I would not hesitate to drive it across the country or detail it and enter it in a car show. It is the perfect Sunday drive car. It is a beautiful example of this marque and will no doubt appreciate in value. A deposit of $500 via PayPal is required for me to hold this car. Balance to be paid by bank wire or certified check within 7 days of auction ending.
