Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1973 Oldsmobile Toronado Brougham Great driver or perfect starter car for anyone interested in starting out in the antique and classic car hobby. Needs some work, but many new parts and it runs and drives great right now! Chestnut metallic with off-white interior and tan vinyl top. AC, power windows, locks, tilt wheel, 6-way power seat, electric rear defog. Decent original car that has not been hacked or molested, just shy of 100K miles. Original drivetrain still in excellent condition, well maintained. Very reliable and comfortable – great driving car. Exterior is in fair to good condition, some rust, very fixable. Some panels still original paint (hood, trunk, rf fender, driver’s side lower door). Paint is fair to poor – needs work. Bumpers were rechromed and are decent. Vinyl top is fair, not torn but is dry and has some bubbling around the rear window. Car needs bumper fillers front and back. Interior is very nice – all original including carpet which is in very nice condition. Speaks for the overall care the car had throughout the years. Door panel armrests are cracked and need some work. Seats and headliner still presentable, no tears. Dash pad is perfect. Mechanically the car has had A LOT of new parts and repairs in the last 12,000 miles (or less), including: New re-cored radiator New water pump New fuel pump Rebuilt original carburetor (excellent job, responsive and smooth with correct jetting) Full tune-up including hi-end platinum plugs New CV joints left side, rights are also good. New ball joints, idler arm and alignment New brakes all around, brake hoses, rotors, front calipers, and rear wheel cylinders. New shocks all around New radiator and heater hoses Refurbished fuel tank and new NOS sending unit New battery in 2008 -Engine is an Olds 455 4bbl; quiet and runs perfect, powerful and smooth. -Transmission (Turbo-hyrdramatic 425) operates like new, perfect – smooth and shifts great. Has slight leak, gets better when car is used more frequently. -The true dual exhaust system is old, needs to be replaced. Left side is still intact; the right side has a hole in the muffler and resonator behind muffler has rusted off. Car is not too loud to drive, but should be repaired. Can be driven home anywhere just as-is. -Tires are decent and pass inspection, but ideally should get a new set. Still has original triple-whitewall tire spare in trunk, wow! I have a lot of paperwork and service receipts for this car and I will provide for the new owner. I was the second owner, but I sold the car and it changed hands one more time before I bought it back – so technically you would be the 4th owner, but you’d get the full paper trail. This car was in the original owner’s hands until about 2002 when it had about 82,000 miles on it. Is a local car. I met the wife of the deceased original owner when I brought the car back the original address only a few miles away from our house where the car is currently garaged. Some misc. extra parts included with sale including original AM/FM stereo radio. The Toronado is a historically significant car since it was the auto industry's first 'modern' front wheel drive production car. Starting in 1966, Oldsmobile lead the industry with Toronado's sophisticated, rugged and powerful front wheel drive configuration. 1973 was the strongest selling year ever for Toronado, and it is the last year before catalytic converter and electronic ignition.
