1964 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 Aston racing green - Restored by Kurt Tanner! Absolutely gorgeous 1964 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 for sale from San Francisco Sports Cars. Best one in the world? Maybe! This beautiful Austin Healey BJ8 had a full frame off restoration in 2005 by world renowned restoration expert Kurt Tanner. Kurt's cars represent the upper end of the market, one of his cars set the world record for a big Healey by selling at auction for $143,000. The 3000 MKIII, known to the cognoscenti by it's chassis number prefix BJ8, was the end of the line for the "big" Healey which dated back to the 4 cylinder 100 introduced in 1952. The MKIII was the most developed and evolved and included an inline 6 cylinder engine, walnut veneer dash, a carpeted folding backrest that could be laid down to create a luggage shelf, roll up windows and a top that can be raised with one hand from inside the vehicle. This version came with the very powerful 2,912 cc 6 cylinder engine making 148 hp. Kurt says in an article in Hemming's Motor News, "There's no doubt that the 3000's, like the rest of the big Healey's, have a timeless charm about them, and simply ooze with British character." In my opinion, they're just fantastic looking cars. The dashboard, the interior layout- they're just very, very nice cars to look at. Kurt observes that the $100,000 threshold is a difficult one for an Austin Healey to crack, and that the very best restorations seem to have plateaued around the six figure mark. "I think prices are here to stay," he predicted, "I don't see them going over $100,000, I think they're pretty solid and steady in that price range." This Austin Healey BJ8 with sn #25651 was purchased through RM Auction in Monterey, CA in August 2006, her collector owner intended that she would rally the U.S. so must not only look pretty but function perfectly as well. To this end, she has had many hours and dollars spent to make her the best driving Healey I have ever experienced! Finished in Aston racing green with an amazing putty colored leather, SN #25651 needs nothing and is poised and ready for another 46 years of enjoyable driving. She wears her black California plates proudly and is available for personal inspection by appointment anytime. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours of the auction close. The remaining balance is due within 72 hours of the close of auction, unless other arrangements were made. Accepted payment methods are bank wire transfers, cashier's checks and money orders. If you wish to obtain financing, please do so ahead of time. We reserve the right to end the auction early.
