Vehicle Detail
1928 Dodge Brothers Merchant Express, Model SE Body by Graham Brothers Relisted with reserve less than half of original offering price! Specifications: 110” wheel base. Six cylinder, inline, L head, 208 CID engine. Three speed transmission. Four wheel mechanical brakes. 4.75 – 5.00 X 19 tires. Dual side mount spare tires with “sink faucet” side view mirrors. This eighty two year old truck is totally original, un-restored* and basically complete. The truck was purchased new by the Crystal Laundry Co. of Oakland, CA and was retired sometime in the mid fifties. It has been in dry storage with one owner ever since. The engine starts easily and runs well. It smokes a little, has some valve noise and the clutch is weak but functional. The lower end is quiet and oil pressure is strong. The brake light works, others do not. It has the Budd all steel body, an unusual but standard feature with Dodge and Graham Brothers at the time. There is some, minimal rust through showing on the side lower cowl, door and panel side (see photos). Fenders, floor, etc. show some light surface only. The plated radiator shell is very rusty. Glass is missing in driver and right rear door. Windshield is cracked. One GB hubcap is missing. Original crank included. The truck was built by Graham Brothers in Detroit (#D 2011XX) at the time of the Dodge Brothers buy out and bares the DB badge on the radiator and headlights only. This is a very rare vehicle in exceptional, original condition. It was displayed at the ATHS National Convention at Pleasanton, CA two weeks ago and was a real attraction. * excepting 6 new tires, battery, exhaust system, upholstery and top cover. Fuel tank recently boiled out and sealed. Fresh tune up. Email me a haist2@comcast.net or call me if you have questions at 925-899-4912 (pacific daylight time) I would love to keep this truck but I need the room and have too many projects.
