Just in time for car show season, this Custom ’71 Malibu 400 will stand out in a sea of SS Clones and is sure to make a statement at your favorite events and club gatherings this summer. It’s cool to be different and this custom Chevy Malibu 400 is just that, a classic look but something different. With only 56k original miles it’s still in excellent condition; the frame, floor pans, trunk and panels all appear to be original, rust free, super clean and straight. The engine bay is nicely detailed, neat and clean, and the original plastic inner fenders where replaced with metal units for easy maintenance and durability. Though the many detailed photos speak for themselves regarding the condition of this Malibu 400, the major components and conditions are as follows: Engine: Date correct 1971 400ci 4-Bolt Main 4bbl Engine (nom) with Comp Cam 255 DEH Dual Energy Camshaft kit, including lifters, valve springs and double-roller timing chain; Weiand Stealth Dual Plane Intake Manifold, and Edelbrock 1411 750cfm square bore carburetor with electric choke. It starts and runs great, maintains good oil pressure and water temps, and has no fluid leaks or other problems detected. The block is color matched to the exterior paint scheme. The stamping/casting numbers are listed below for your reference. Exhaust: Hooker Super Comp Ceramic Coated Headers to full 2.5” exhaust with H-Pipe and Flowmaster 40 series Mufflers, exiting factory style tail pipes. A solid and professionally installed exhaust system with a very nice street sound! Transmission: The factory TH350 3-Speed Automatic Transmission shifts great and has no fluid leaks or unusual noises. It was color matched to the vehicle for a clean look. The drive-shaft was also balanced to ensure long life of the joints with no road vibrations, and is color matched as well. Originally a column shift car, it was modified with a Hurst Indy floor shift for a more classic appearance. Rear-End: Factory 10-Bolt open carrier, originally equipped with 2.73:1 gears now houses a set of 3.55:1 gears and performs great. An excellent combination of street / highway gears. Suspension: Mostly factory original suspension with the addition of lowering springs, all the original body bushings are still in excellent condition with no drying or cracking. The front and rear control arm bushings are in great shape as well, and the KYB shocks are brand new. The stabilizer bar and link bushings are in great shape as well. Steering System: The factory steering system is in good condition with newly installed power steering hoses, no leaks or unusual noises and it performs just as it should. Brakes: The front power disc brakes and rear drum brakes all have plenty of material with solid braking and no pulling or pulsating detected. The emergency brake system is in good condition as well, and works as it should. Exterior: The body and paint are in very nice condition with only minor blemishes, the color was changed to Honduras Maroon which was available on the ’61-’63 Corvette, and finished with satin black painted stripes and lettering (not decals), and blacked-out front grill. The maroon paint was buffed to a mirror finish and looks awesome in person. The door hinges have no play whatsoever and the fit & finish is very good. All doors, glass and trunk seals are tight and pliable with no drying or cracking. The hood, doors, windows and deck lid all open and close easily. No detected signs of collision or body damage and all sheet metal appears to be original. Undercarriage: The undercarriage is in fantastic shape as you would expect on a Nevada/Arizona 56k mile car. No rust detected and it appears to retain most of its original factory undercoating as shown in the photos. There have been minor cosmetic touch-ups to the undercarriage but it remains virtually unrestored and in excellent condition. Interior: As you can see in the photos the interior is in very good condition and shows well. The bucket seats are super clean, straight, and comfortable with no leaning whatsoever, and they adjust smoothly and easily. The carpet is super clean and free of stains, and the seat-belts are in great shape & function as they should. The headliner, sun visors, and door panels are clean and straight with no rips or tears, all trim is clean and needs nothing. The floor mats appear to be the factory original GM "Malibu" black vinyl mats and are still in excellent condition. The steering wheel was upgraded with a Grant model and leather wrapped to match the interior. The factory 3rd passenger rear seat belt set is included with the car. They were removed for a cleaner appearance. Tires & Wheels: The wheels are brand new Foose Nitrous R/T 15”x 8”, wrapped with BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s, 225/60 R15 front – 275/50 R15 rear, all in excellent condition with years of tread left on them. Electrical: All exterior/interior lights, gauges, turn signals, hazards, horn, wipers and electrical components are functioning. Stereo: Upgraded with a Pioneer Super Tuner IIID, DEH-1700, AM/FM/CD Stereo with two 300w rear 3-way 6x9 speakers, dual cone front under-dash mounted speaker, and two separate under-dash front mounted tweeters. A great performing 5 speaker sound system that surrounds you with quality tunes on the road. User manual included. Glass: The glass is all factory original (except the windshield) and is in great driver condition. Recently upgraded with new professionally installed SunTek custom tinting on the rear and side glass to protect the interior and keep you cool this summer. The tint carries a lifetime warranty and is honored with most SunTek installers. The factory window felts are still in excellent condition with no major wind noises or rattling.
