Vehicle Detail
1963 Corvette Vintage Race Car (above) The car as it looked circa 1970-71 Current pics of the car as found. This car was owned by its driver Michael Nucera (deceased) From 1968 until 2009. It was actively campaigned by Mike as an SCCA B production racer from 68-78, car was prepped for the 1979 racing season then parked and sat until sold by his widow in 2009. The car was well known in the north east division and was often towed to the track by a mosport green 66 Corvette roadster that Mike bought new. The car was born Riverside Red with a black vinyl interior. pics of it from 1968 show it was equipped with a fuel injection unit. I know who has the fuel unit that was last on this car as well as the Z06 style big (drum) brakes that were removed from this car in favor of the J56 heavy duty disc brakes. In 1963 they made only 199 Z06 corvettes, in late 63 the Z06 option was available on convertibles, this car was made less then 1 month from the end of production, it has the possibility that it was a super rare 1 of only a few Z06 convertibles, but its also possible that these parts were just added to make it a more competitive car. Either way they were on it, and it was raced with them prior to being converted to Disc brakes. One other unusual aspect of the car is a larger then normal gas tank equipped with dual sending units. The Car is in as found condition for the most part, I left it as I found it other then making it drivable. The car has a great patina and is very period correct, not updated or modified from its as raced condition. Engine sounds and runs great, it is a period correct small block w/many hi perf Chevy parts on it. intake and heads are 69 Z28 302 parts, engine size is unknown and stamp pad is blank. Car has vintage Kustom industries headers and sidepipes. Car has new calipers and pads, now runs drives and stops. very solid frame, very nice body shell. clean birdcage. car could easily be made streetable, is currently registered, tagged and insured, or go back to vintage racing. J56 heavy duty disc brakes, F41 rear spring and sway bars, guldstrand suspension mods and components, rear axle fluid cooler and pump, slot mags that were on the car in its early days along with old Goodyear blue streak racing slicks. Car was campaigned and successfully raced alongside many famous drivers and cars, I have race sheets with the names of John Greenwood, Jerry Thompson, Tony DeLorenzo, Herb Caplin, Dick Stockton, Lou D'Amico, Paul Newman, and others. The car had a progression of numbers through the years. From My research I have compiled the following list: 1968 # 65 1969 # 66, 1970 # 64, 1971 # 71, 1972 # 91, 74-75(?) was # 25, 1975 # 27 1976 # 29, 1977 # 79 SCCA log number 023 160 was found on the roll bar vintage era pics of the car. Car is available for inspection by appointment most any time, car is sold as is, email with any questions, I am happy to talk with you about the car, email me for my number. Thanks and good luck! On May-24-10 at 14:30:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Here are pics of the fuel unit and the big brakes. These parts are not included in the auction but are available. The brakes are missing the pass side backing plate. I also have 4 NOS drums available, NOS rear shoes, extra 3.70 posi rear, extra J56 brake pads, some used and nos fuel parts. none of these are included with the auction.
