Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 2000 Daewoo Lanos S. This car has been a lot of fun, but I needed something a bit larger. So, that's made this car expendable and I'll definitely miss it, but I just really don't have the time or use for it anymore. The car has the 1.6 GM E-TEC engine used mostly in Eupopean Opels, with a GM automatic transmission. So, it's not the fastest thing in a straight line, but it is a peppy powertrain. Where the car really shines in through corners- it handles like it's on rails. When the car was in the chassis development stage, Daewoo consulted Porsche and Lotus to refine the handling characteristics of the car. Add their know-how to the already lightweight body, and you have a recipe for cornering bliss. This is what makes this car such a joy to drive, and it is totally predictable and razor sharp. The car has been slightly modified, with mostly all of the effort going into improving the handling even more. The list of these modifications and others include: -Shark Racing Front Strut Tower Brace-15" 5 Spoke Black VSR Alloy Wheels (W/ Hankook VENTUS All-Season Performance Tires)-Eibach Racing Springs (Lowered a whopping 2.2")-K&N Cold Air Intake-Front Brembo Rotors (Less than 7500 miles since installation)-Blaupunkt CD/MP3 Stereo (Same one used in the early Tesla Roadsters) W/ Full Blaupunkt Speaker Package While the car is extremely solid mechanically, their are a few cosmetic issues to get it perfect. The Italdesign-designed body has a few scratches and dings in it, and the paint is wearing slightly on some places on the bumpers. The Saab badges could stand removal or replacing as well. Overall, the body is in pretty good shape. The area that will need the most work is the interior. The headliner could use replacing, and new visors need to be fitted. The interior trim will also need to be repainted to bring it to factory finish, as the original paint job on the trim was poor. As well, the speakers in the door need grill covers. Cosmetically it's definitely a project if you want to get it good, but it will do if it doesn't bother you. I'm kind of a perfectionist, so it bugs me. I am only the second owner of the car. The first was my neighbor, who bought the car new in Washington state. She drove it out to Virginia, had it for a while, then gave it to me. She was a bit elderly, and so the car was mechanically babied up to 26000 miles. I have continued to take really good care of it, while making it more fun. It's been really efficient too, getting around 35 MPG. The only mechanical issue is a camshaft position sensor, which these cars are known for. So that will need replacing when you can get around to it. I think this is a great car for a fun daily driver, a fun and simple project, and something unique! Let me know if you have any other questions about the car! Thanks! On May-17-10 at 17:33:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention!... The car comes with the factory wheels as well (in addition to the current VSR wheels that are on the car), as well as 2 used Falkan performance tires if you want them. They still have a few thousand miles of life on them and offer tons of grip, though at the expense of tire life. I just switched out the whole set when I needed new front tires so I wasn't mixing and matching. Which also reminds me, the current tires that are on the car have less than 10,000 miles on them! They are all-seasons, and have plenty of life. The car is also equipped with a carbon-fiber barrel muffler/exhaust tip. The carbon fiber barrel is visible through the right rear wheel spokes, which is a pretty cool touch. It gives the car a nice, throaty responsiveness, and is far from the high-pitched lawnmower sounding units that most aftermarket systems provide. And, last but definitely not least, I have all of the maintenance records and history from everything from oil changes to the professional spring installation. Let me know if you have any other questions!
