1964 AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 BJ8 WITH OVERDRIVE MAKE OFFER! By 1964, the venerable Austin-Healey Roadster, one of the most celebrated Sports Cars of all time, had entered its final stage of development, marked by the introduction of the 3000 BJ8 "Phase II" model. It was the most sophisticated, luxurious iteration of a car first introduced more than a decade earlier. The new model featured wind-up windows, walnut veneer dash, engine improvements including a new cam shaft and valve springs and twin SU 2" HD8 carburetors. And, with a true 120mph top speed, it also was the fastest production Healey ever. The "Phase II" cars distinguished themselves by being more supple in the handling department, the rear axle now being located by radius arms, the suspension allowing for a bit more travel. Externally, the "Phase II" cars are easily recognizable by the pair of larger light and signal lenses at each corner. For discriminating collectors worldwide, the last of the 'Big Healeys' holds a very special appeal. Finely restored examples command prices between $75,000.00 and 125,000.00 The BJ8 Phase II Healey is in a league with Jaguar's XK-E and Mercedes' Pagoda SL, performance-wise. It is the epitome of the "hairy-chested" British Roadster. The Healey you are looking at is a true survivor. Other than a light cosmetic restoration nearly 20 years ago, this rare classic remains mostly original. As far as I can tell, the Ambla upholstery is original down it's gold piping! There is nothing finer than the sound of a well tuned BIG HEALEY and this car does not disappoint! This car starts instantly and the note from the inline 6 is intoxicating as you run effortlessly through the 4 speed gearbox. The electronic overdrive works perfectly and assures that highway cruising is very comfortable. The car is as tight as a drum with no rattles or squeaks and the suspension and steering are tight as well. The engine does not leak oil or smoke. The paint looks fantastic in the pictures but upon close inspection you can expect to find minor blemishes, chips, scratches and shrinkage.
