This Lotus Esprit Turbo has been extremely well maintained. In 2006 it had a complete engine rebuild including new pistons and a new Nikasil turbo. The only reason I can think of why they did that is they enjoyed the car to its fullest. The complete air conditioning system was replaced a few years ago. I have maintainence records from 2002. Thousands of dollars were spent to keep this car in pristine condition thru that time. Some of the upgrades were brake and brake line replacement, carpet replacement, and many others. I traded off my 38 Chevy and took this in on trade last fall. I drove it from north west Arkansas thru Eureka Springs, then on I-44 home to Chestnut, Illinois; 62518. It's been in a heated shop since that time and started occasionally. The car is extremely fast and is not your teen's typical "go to school" vehicle. I've never experienced a vehicle that can hug the corners like the Esprit. 25mph cruves at 60? = No problem. A little wet? = No problem. My buddy went with me to deliver and pick up the cars. He's 6'4" tall = no problem (well maybe it would have been if we were going from New York to L.A.). The temperature gauge and the fuel gauge works off and on. Beside that I know of nothing that I can say is wrong with the car. It's as pristine as they come and the previous care for the car shows. I don't know much else to report on this fine machine. I had to previously list a built from the ground up 50K rod elsewhere because Ebay's "Auto Check" gave a truck built from the ground up close to a score of ZERO! Because of a duplicate title somewhere along the way (obviously lost the title), changes made to the title ( some government worker probably spelled something wrong), and something about a safety emissions test = gave this ride a stupid score of 39 on this car?? = Idiots!!!!! Here in Illinois our previous governors make our license plates. Obviously whoever rates this extremely nice sports car to a 39 should have their heads examined!! I'm sure whoever makes these ratings couldn't make our license plates as they obviously don't have the capability to use their brain well enough to rate this great car fairly! The ONLY oil we could see was a very light film which was from changing the oil filter. The anti freeze was a tick low and we found the drain plug to be a tick loose and showed a very very slow drip. We tightened the plug 1/2 turn (it was loose enough to turn by hand) and that eliminated that problem. It's VERY VERY CLEAN underneath. If the car has in fact been repainted, my helper who has been a professional body man/painter for over 30 years can not tell it. Although it may very well be the original paint I can not state that it's the original paint job. Brett, my paint and body man he feels it is the original paint! There is absolutely no evidence of any taping anything off anywhere to apply a new paint job. We also checked the a.c. and it still holds a charge (all a.c parts replaced in 06) and blows cold air. All the rubber covers on the drive shafts (I know wrong name) look fresh and are in place. The emergency brake works well. The tires are full of tread and not cracked. This is not your typical run of the mill Esprit. It has been extremely well cared for. As you can tell by the price I took off the reserve and this car will have a new owner at the end of this auction. About 24K is the retail so I'm assuming it'll go higher with the interest shown. This is a very rare car (only 700 brought to the U.S, in 1986 I believe) and it IS in extremely good condition. On May-14-10 at 14:52:43 PDT, seller added the following information: We put a pressure test on the radiator this afternoon (friday 5-14-2010). It dropped 4#'s in 1/2 hour. We're going to pull the radiator monday and MAKE SURE there is not a leak in the radiator. It should be ready monday afternoon or tuesday. I WILL NOT let any known problems (other than the short in the fuel and water gauge mentioned before) go with this car = It's too close to perfect and that's the way I'm selling it. Only good surprises (as in WOW) to the new owner is intended.
