Vehicle Detail
1982 AMC Eagle SX/4. This car is in excellent condition. The 258 cid Six Cylinder fires up first crank every time and purrs like a kitten. The flowmaster exhaust has a nice rumble to it. The 3 speed automatic transmission shifts smooth as silk. The A/C blows cold and the heater is hot. Pop your favorite 80's cassette in the Pioneer tape deck and you are ready to head out on the highway. I have driven this car daily to work with no problems. It has 120,000 miles but it looks more like 20,000 miles. The exterior has some paint chips and spider webbing in places. The car was Ziebart coated when it was new and it really did the trick. I can't find any rust underneath this car at all. The tires are in great shape. The suspension handles like new. The front brake rotors could use turning. The interior is in great condition with the exception of the headliner needing some attention due to the fact it is sagging. The dash looks like brand new. The glass is all good. Only non-factory piece is the radio and it is a nice Pioneer tape deck from the mid 90's. It is easly removed and you can go back to stock AM. The only thing that doesn't function properly on this car is the fuel gauge. I put a meter on the sending unit and found it to be completely open so it is definitely the culprit. The sending unit itself is very easy to get to. It is located on the side of the tank. The problem is that nobody is manufacturing these sending units any more so you would have to find a new old stock replacement. The Story: I bought this car with an oil leak and a dead cylinder. The oil leak was an easy fix. The stock valve cover was plastic on this model and it was cracked and not sealing properly. I replaced it with a really high quality Clifford cast aluminum cover. The dead cylinder wasn't such an easy fix. The stock electronic feedback carburetor was malfunctioning and caused a lean out situation which cracked a few piston rings. I replaced the rings, gaskets, bearings, and reamed and honed the cylinders. The electronic carburetor and all of it's associated wiring, emissions controls, and computer were removed and put in a box for safe keeping should anyone want to return it to factory for some reason. I then replaced the carb with an earlier model non-feedback standard type Rochester factory carburetor with electric choke which was remanufactured by Holley. I also replaced the fuel pump. The plugs, wires, cap and rotor are all new. The A/C has been converted to R134a and is working very well. The engine looks completely stock minus the valve cover and the A/C adapter fittings. Anyone who wasn't an AMC fanatic would never know the difference and anyone who is an AMC fan appreciates the reliability upgrades. Drive this car home and take it to your local cruise-in. I promise you will turn many heads. I have sold many cars on ebay and I have excellent feedback. Bid with confidence.
