Vehicle Detail

1990 Volkswagen Cabriolet 16v - 5 speed manual This a great restored and modified Cabriolet. Has loads of new parts and upgrades done at around 110,000 miles, now 117k. You would have to put well over $10k into a car to get the same result. The engine pulls really strong. The conversion was done by a shop and looks like a factory install. Most of the restoration and conversion was done about 4 years ago and it has seen limited mileage since (under 10k on engine, interior and top still look new). I've had the car for almost 3 years. My wife wanted an old-school looking cabby, while I wanted a car with a fresh, strong motor that wouldn’t require me to spend every summer weekend fixing it. When we got it, it had the original clipper kit on it. As you can see, we converted it to euro bumpers, early grill, early side mirrors, duckbill, and black lower side trim. We love the car, just don't drive it enough to make keeping it worthwhile. I probably overpaid for the car 3 years ago ($5900) and given the economy now I set the reserve low. You could buy cabbies all day long for $2k, but usually they have old tops, old paint, old interiors, tired motors, etc. Save yourself some headaches and money buy a car that's ready to go. I'm not sure why the title report says "odometer exceeds limits" since it does have all the digits to say 117,000 and all the miles line up. The emissions fail was due to the gas cap not sealing 100%. I put on a new cap and it passed fine. Not sure about the left rear accident that is showing up, but it was before the repaint and I haven't seen any issues with the paint anywhere, so the repair was done well. Selling with no reserve beyond the $500 starting bid, so this car will sell. Reason for the no reserve is that I have to start paying for space and I don't want to let the car sit outside and rot. Here are the details: Exterior: Custom paint, professionally done (S2000 Indy Yellow Pearl, Honda code Y-52P). The car was originally yellow and the custom paint is a fairly close match, but a bit deeper and more metallic. 1 repaired scratch and some repaired chipping around trunk lock and by front window, but other issues very minor and overall great condition. No rust. Very solid paint - no bubbling. No leaks (ie, no puddles or drips on the garage floor that I've ever seen). New condition black vinyl top and headliner. I haven't driven the car in rain, but it seems to seal well when closed. Tinted windows in great condition although the front window is tinted all the way and has some streaking visible in sunlight. I’d suggest removing it, but it doesn’t bother my wife. Shaved side marker lights - Shaved rear badge Euro bumpers front and back (new in '07), Smaller sized duckbill spoiler (new in '07) Early grill (A black badgeless grill is also included if you want it) Crystal smoked headlights, Smoked bumper lenses, Crystal clear & red taillights MK3 Door handles with shaved keyholes (in other words, this car doesn’t lock unless you put in new handles or an alarm with solenoids) Engine: Rebuilt 1.8l 16v Motor with about 10k miles since rebuild VW Digifant EFI - G60 injectors - BBM fuel rail - Neuspeed wires - TT Cam Gear Eurosport header (the chrome has pretty much flaked off) - Custom Cat Back w/ 2.5" piping, flex pipe, resonator, and twin tip exit with removable tip restrictors (everything except the cat new in 2007 when I tried to mellow out the sound a bit) A/C was deleted Manual steering (The power steering was removed. Steering is pretty firm but not bad since the steering ratio seems appropriate for manual steering.) Interior: Custom Recaro Trophy interior black vinyl with yellow stitching - New condition black carpet Momo floor mats, e-brake, and shifter - GTI steering wheel New Kenwood head unit in '08, plays MP3 cds, has MP3 player input - Pioneer speakers 6x9 in rear 6.5 in the front. New rear seat belts Suspension: Bilstein HD shocks - Neuspeed lowering springs Newly refinished VW 14" Snowflake rims. Stripped bare and powder coated matte black. Pictures don't do the wheels justice. - 185r60 tires, around 50 to 60% tread - New rubber bushings on steering rack and front suspension (makes it ride much better than the poly bushings it had when I got it) New front and rear HD rubber motor mounts, new rubber steering rack mounts Drilled front rotors, minimal wear Other: Pro install of top and interior (cost about $900 for labor alone) Short throw shifter Heater core replaced - E-brake cable replaced - Speedo cable replaced Door locks have solenoids, but we had the alarm removed because it was malfunctioning. We never lock it since we only use it with the top down, so you will need to have a new alarm or door handles with normal locks put in if you want to lock the car. New door handles with keys run about $35 online. A pair of horns are included but not installed. I believe the lead for the horns is under the battery. Center section white face gauges put in but never hooked up. Oil pressure sender is installed and works, so I'm not sure why the gauges weren't connected. Other issues and things to note: There is no spare tire. Trunk inside is painted black but not carpeted. The passenger seat tends to work its way into a recline position with no passenger in it. It is a $9 part to fix it and 10 minutes, just haven’t bothered. Oh, and I didn’t get the wheels pointed exactly straight when I put on the GTI steering wheel so it’s not quite straight when the car is straight, again quick fix. I'll fix this before closing the deal. That's about all I can think of. More pictures available via email. If you are out of town, I'll help with shipping however I can except financially. On May-07-10 at 16:38:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: I did adjust the steering wheel to point where it should. On driving the car home to be ready for the sale, I noticed the temp gauge did not go up. I replaced the temp sender, but the gauge still didn't move. The heat does work great and the car does warm up just fine, but either the gauge itself went bad or there is a short somewhere. I'm not going to mess with it anymore, so be aware of this issue (if the bidding stops at $1825 then I'll work with the buyer financially). Other gauges work well. Also, in the bright sun I am reminded that there is a repaired star ship on the windshield. It is about dime size and the repair did not make it invisible (as can happen), but it does seem to have filled the crack and should prevent spidering. With the tint on the front windshield it's not something you'll notice unless the sun hits it just right.
