Vehicle Detail
This 1971 Pontiac LeMans Sport is in excellent condition. This car was purchased about five years ago in southern California by a friend of mine. This car was manufactured at the Fremont, California plant and spent its entire life in CA before being taken to Utah (stored indoors and never driven in Utah till this year). There is no rust on the car and never has been, having spent its entire life in arid southern California and Utah. All of the body panels are original and have never had any rust repair. The floors and undercarriage are in excellent, rust-free condition. Other than just a few dings here and there, there are no dents on the car. The chrome on the bumpers is in great condition (I was told they were recently re-plated). There are not many options on the car other than power steering, power drum brakes and the Sport option which adds the bucket seat interior with the console shifted transmission. The car originally had A/C but was missing when I got the car. I have installed a very nice A/C delete cover which replaces the original evaporator and case (looks like a factory part). I also installed a new heater core and fan motor at the same time. The black bucket seat interior is in amazing condition. I suspect the seats have been reupholstered at some point. Even the dash pad is in great shape (it has one tiny crack right above the glove box that is barely noticeable - see pictures). Carpet and headliner are also in great shape. When I received the car, someone had glued carpet into the trunk. I removed that. The floor has no rust but you can still see the glue residue. I'm sure with a little work, it could be cleaned out. All of the glass is in very good condition. The original, numbers matching 350, 2bbl engine runs great. The automatic transmission works/shifts great. The car has a brand new radiator, as well as all hoses (fuel and water) and belts. The car has a fairly new 2" aluminized exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers (it sounds great). Valve cover gaskets, vent pipe and PVC grommets have been replaced. Battery is brand new. I have almost a thousand dollars in receipts for the new parts that have been recently installed on this car. I have put several hundred miles on this car in the past few weeks and believe at this point it could be driven pretty much anywhere. What does this car need? Very little: - The weather stripping around the side windows has been removed and needs replaced - The package tray needs to be replaced - One of the trunk tension rods is missing (I have a replacement) - The fiberglass nose section has a few cracks - I have a metal replacement - No radio (dash bezel has been cut) - The 14" tires are not in the best condition but would last for a while - The transmission shift cable needs some minor adjustment - Console is missing the hinge and the plastic part of the lid is broken. - Front license plate bracket is missing - Speedometer works but odometer is broken (I have a replacement gauge) - A few of the front seatbelt parts are missing: Buckle ends for the shoulder belts are missing - Buckle end for passenger front belt is missing - drivers side retractable belt is missing (has been replaced with a non retractable belt). Other than that, this car is in beautiful condition. It's been re-painted once. I have gone over the car with a magnet and find no body filler. The car did have a vinyl top at some point (before I owned it) that has been removed. The roof has been primered. You can see there was a very little bit of rust under the top that left some pitting in the metal (between the rear window and trunk lid - see pictures) . Nothing bad at all. Even the tail lamp lenses are in almost perfect condition with all the dividers intact. I do have the stainless drip-rail trim, wheel well trim as well as the vinyl top trim, however I do not have the rocker panel moldings or the trim that fits on the rear edge of the hood. The previous owner chrome plated the rear valance (it should be painted - much of this chrome is flaking off.). I think you'd have a tough time finding another LeMans that was any cleaner or needed less work to finish than this car. The main thing I'd ask you to keep in mind about this car is how clean it is and how little it needs to be completely restored. Buying this car over one that needs a lot of rust or interior work will save you a bunch of money (and time). If you have any questions, please ask before bidding. If you'd like additional pictures, please ask. Feel free to email and make an appointment to come and view the car before the close of the auction. If you cannot come look at the car yourself, I encourage having a disinterested third party come evaluate the car for you. I am happy to help in any way I can if you'd like to have the car shipped. I am located in Tooele, Utah (10 miles south of I-80). I have a large lot that can easily accommodate a diesel and trailer should you wish to have it shipped. If you need to store the car before shipping, I will happily store it indoors for up to 30 days for free. Beyond 30 days, I can continue to store the car at a rate of $50 per month (up to a year). Please notice my 100% feedback rating after being on ebay for over 12 years. Key words: 1970 70 1971 71 1972 72 Pontiac LeMans LeMans Sport coupe hardtop hard top GTO
