Vehicle Detail
Turn Heads with this Stunning 1977 Triumph Silver Jubilee! limited edition One of a Thousand! I will try to get some better pictures posted tomorrow but wanted to start auction tonight. ( now up)The title is the original Tennessee issued to the original owner in 1977 is "open" or unassigned as the current owner was a motor vehicle dealer at the time of purchase. From the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa Iowa's website: Triumph Bonneville T140 Silver Jubilee Limited Edition. These machines were built to commemorate the first 25 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign as the Queen of England. Originally the plan was to manufacture a total of 1,000 units for the home market to honor the Queen, but they sold so easily that the factory quickly produced another 1,000 bikes for the American market, then roughly another 400 for general export world-wide. The first 1000 had emblems which read “One of a Thousand”. But when manufacturing exceeded 1000, subsequent bikes were badged “Limited Edition”. The late 1970’s Triumph T140’s are among the most refined of the Bonneville line which began in 1959. As can be seen, great attention was paid to finishes on the Silver Jubilee. Chrome plating was added to the engine side-cases, the tail light housing was chromed and chrome rims were painted and striped down their centers, a classic touch. Cast alloy wheels were optional. Body paint and badging were nicely designed. Upholstery included red piping. Each Silver Jubilee came with a certificate of authenticity. The bikes quickly became collectors items, some put on display and never ridden. While staying with the proven and well-liked parallel twin design for over 15 years, by the mid-1970′s Triumph began to update and further improve the basic Bonneville. (Thank you to the museum for the above description) This fine example offered in this sale was ridden often in it's early days before the current owner purchased it and put it on display in his office in the mid 90's. After several years it was relegated to warehouse duty. In preparation for this sale the brake system was completely gone thru with rebuild kits installed in both calipers and both master cylinders and all rubber brake lines including the reservoir hose were replaced. A new chain was installed on good condition sprockets. Carburetors were clean but gone thru and new gaskets and fuel lines installed. Fuel tank is rust free and clean. One petcock was replaced as was the tail light lens and ignition switch. The silver colored vent hose's that run along the r. fender were also replaced. One shift detent plunger that sits above the oil line was stuck from 20 plus years of not being used. This was cleaned and re-assembled. And works fine now. The bike starts easily idles well and runs very good and the clutch and transmission work smoothly. Much time and effort went into cleaning the area underneath and behind the engine. The front fork seals have not been changed and they are weeping some but not too bad if not ridden. Cosmetically this bike looks very nice. You may notice the tank is a nice silver and the fenders have "yellowed" with time and the side covers are in between. This tank and I believe the side covers were installed in the mid to late 90's. The owner believes he has the original tank and side covers but they have not been located. For this auction these extra parts are not included but may be added if found in time. There is no known rash or "lay down" damage. I will say there are no dents or dings in the body work or mufflers but I'm sure someone can find minor flaws. It appears that a previous owner applied some type of silver coating to the nuts and bolts. The seat is original and good condition with some fading of the rear logo. No rust or flaking chrome. The spokes could use some TLC and polish. The tires are black and round with full tread, cracking sidewalls ,hold air and are hard as diamonds! Definitely needs new tires to be road worthy. Scratches?
