Vehicle Detail

This exquisite 1966 BMW R60/2 twin has had a complete and comprehensive nut and bolt restoration by Benchmark Works. This example is finished in Dover white and features the large 6 gallon Schorsch Meier sport tank, the factory optional luggage rack, deep extra capacity oil pan, turn signals and twin Denfeld seats. The rear seat can be removed if you prefer that look. The bike has been converted to 12 volts for easier starting, brighter lights and better electrics. The odometer is showing 31,882 miles which is believed to be correct. The Benchmark Works restoration is documented with over 27 pages of parts receipts. The receipts detail 275 line items for parts and work performed. All receipts for the restoration and maintenance since restoration will be provided to the buyer. Also included in the sale are the BMW tool kit, owners manual with original clear plastic protector, BMW shop rag and a directory of all the BMW service locations available in the world at the time the bike was manufactured. (See photo of these items in gallery). The license plate shown is registered to this bike. It is a correct, restored 5" X 8" vintage CA black plate. The bike was restored for personal usage for a Benchmark Works employee who intended to ride it. He wanted a road worthy, useable classic. (Indeed, post restoration he rode this bike from his home in Mississippi to the 37th BMWMOA Rally held in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee). The restoration of this bike included stainless steel parts where practicable including the exhaust, nuts, bolts, spokes, rims and hubcaps. We purchased the motorcycle in late 2011. It has been used for short rides and for shows. The only work that the bike needed when we bought it was to restore the speedometer. This was done by North Hollywood. Also, a new Emerald Isle Coil from Benchmark Works was added three months ago. The bike usually starts on the first kick, has no oil leaks or apparent deferred maintenance. The bike has been shown at the following Southern California venues: The Quail, Greystone Mansion Concours and the BMW 100th Anniversary Concours in Monterey. The bike has also been shown and won awards at the Muckenthaler Concours, Dana Point Concours , and the BMW International Rally in Tennessee where it was judged at 95 and 1/4 points out of 100. (The signed judges sheet will be included in sale). It has been fanatically maintained and stored in a climate controlled garage in Rancho Santa Fe, California since it was acquired. The bike has been ridden sparingly for maintenance and preservation purposes. The following details some of the work that was done during the restoration which occurred when the bike had about 25,000 miles on it.1) New pistons and re-bore2) Rebuilt / new heads, crankshaft, rods, bearings and slingers3) All rubber parts, gaskets and seals were replaced during the restoration 4) New wiring harness5) All new cables6) New tapered steering head bearings7) Wheel bearings properly shimmed8) Brakes and pads updated9) New deep oil pan10) New polished handlebar risers11) 12 volt conversion12) all new exhaust headers, mufflers, clamps, hangers13) new original gas cap and serif tank emblems14) Halogen headlight upgrade15) LED tail light upgrade16) Albert headlight mounted mirrors17) All new paint and striping expertly done. .........And much more as is detailed in the restoration receipts. This is the correct VIN 629046
