Vehicle Detail
I bought this car in 2004 with about 30,000 miles on it. It is the most powerful and fun car to drive I have ever owned. It has been maintained almost exclusively by MB in Pleasanton, CA. The body has a few small paint chips from road dirt but is otherwise essentially perfect. The interior is is very good condition. The CD player and cassette player work normally. The engine and transmission run smoothly and powerfully. The suspension needs work. The chief mechanic at MB Pleasanton told me that this was the best engine/transmission combination MB ever made. The weakness of this car, and most of the top-end models during the early 2000's is the hydraulic suspension system. There are cylinders and sensors at each wheel, a pump (dual chamber with the steering pump), hoses and accumulators. I figured out that I needed at least one accumulator several months ago. It drove fine but I got a warning light when coming off bumps. When I went to start the car today, I found a puddle of hydraulic fluid under the left front and a message that said, do not drive, suspension too low. The suspension is not too difficult to work on, but I am now too old with too much arthritis to want to tackle the job. This link explains a lot about the system:https://mbworld.org/forums/m275-v12-bi-turbo-platform/610385-abc-suspension-thread.html. My ideal buyer is someone who appreciates this truly beautiful, great driving car and has the time and/or money to spiff up the suspension. The car is not drive-able at present so it would need to be fetched by a professional transport company or a tilt body tow truck. Write with any questions.
