Vehicle Detail

This is a find for Honda enthusiasts and collectors. The 1983 Honda Aero 50 is the first modern moped brought to North America by Honda. This model marks the beginning of the modern scooter era for Honda. For more historical information see: http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Honda/Aero50/Aero50.html Other Specifications:- 50cc 2-stroke motor- Electric Start- Automatic Oil Injection- Automatic Choke- "V-matic" CVT Transmission History specific to this Aero:My girlfriend rode this moped to work and back about once a week during the summers of 2015 and 2016. During that time it became more and more difficult to start when it was cold but, it always ran and idled perfectly once warm. By the beginning of summer of 2017, the temperature had to be quite warm (maybe about 70 F) in order to get it started. After checking the easy things (fuel lines, clean carburetor, spark, etc.) I decided to put in a new battery. That did not fix the problem but, the battery has been good to go since. Then I decided to put in a new electric choke. That did not fix the problem either but, the moped still has a brand new electric choke. I was able to find new old stock piston rings and both head gaskets, so in mid-summer 2017 I installed those. While the old gaskets were in decent condition the old piston rings were definitely in need of replacement. They had lost all their springiness and were not tight in the bore of the cylinder. During the job I observed the internals of the engine (crank, piston, wrist pin, reed valve, etc.) all to be in very good condition. By that I mean clean, tight, smooth operation, no corrosion, etc. At this time I also put in a new spark plug that was set to the OEM specified gap. AND.... from then on the moped has run great and will cold start at temperatures down to about 50 F. My girlfriend will not ride when the weather is colder than that so I don't know if it will cold start at temperatures below 50 F. At the end of summer 2017 I winterized the moped with a fresh tank of non-ethanol gas and fuel stabilizer and left it on a trickle charger over winter. This spring the moped started right up and has been running great since. Since I am honest:- Only the high-beam of the headlight works, low-beam does not.- The 35 year old plastic body panels have a few cracks but are in good condition considering their age.- One of the rear view mirrors has a small crack- The old rubber fuel and vacuum lines should probably be replaced in the next couple years
