This is a great opportunity to own one of the fastest appreciating luxury convertibles on the market. It is a 1964 220SE that was completely and professionally restored about 8 years ago. During the restoration the owner also bought a later model 280 SE coupe as a parts car that was rusty but had a very good low mile 280SE engine and transmission in it. He decided to use the bigger better motor in the 220 with the idea it would be a much better driver and still have an authentic motor as the 220 and 280 look identical to most people and both were offered in this body style. He also decided to use the 280 SE trunk badge since that is essentially what it is. The result is a 220SEb Cabriolet that rides and drives with all the benefits of the later 280. The car was completely stripped down and everything was restored to the beautiful car you see here. Any rust was replaced with correct Mercedes panels and this is detailed in a photographic history of the restoration. He sent it back to the body shop 3 times to get the paint perfect. He returned a complete iterior because he did feel the shade of red leather was correct. Eight years later it still looks bright and fresh. The interior is completely restored with new red MB leather which looks stunning. Most of the small chrome was re-plated. It looks to me the bumpers and grill are original chrome and look great with the exception of a few small dings in the rear bumper as seen in the photos. The rebuilt 280 motor starts and runs great and I would drive it any distance. It does not burn or drip oil and all the gauges indicate proper running temp. and oil pressure. The top is also new as are all the rubber and soft parts. The brakes work perfectly and were completely rebuilt. All the glass is clear and chip/crack free. This car was restored to be a excellent driver not a show queen. It has been driven approx. 3,000 miles since restoration. I believe he re-set the ODO at the time of restoration so the true miles are not known. However it presents and drives almost like a new car. It comes with a cover and set of original books, jack and spare. Every panel is straight and solid with no evidence of filler or repairs. The dash and wood look exceptional. All in all this is a stunning car that could be enjoyed as a driver or shown in any local show. This is a truly lovely car to drive. It draws a crowd and comments every time I take it out. There are very few investments doing this well that offer so much enjoyment to watch appreciate. Please bid only after you have asked all your questions and concerns and completed an inspection.
