Vehicle Detail
I've been holding onto this Model T for over 10 years and have just never gotten around to getting it on the road. I have had too many other commitments and projects come up and I realized it's not really fair to keep this project thinking that "someday I'll fix it". I would like to see this car find a good home where it will be appreciated and lovingly returned to its former glory. As I mention below, this was born a 1915 and is not a pile of parts lumped into a car. This components of this car have spent 103 years getting used to each other. Parts are worn in complimentary ways to each other and should yield a well-mannered car. This car is being sold for complete restoration or parts. History of the car: This car spent about 60-70 years in a garage behind a body shop in a borough of Manhattan until the previous owner bought it. That owner left the car outside for a number of years before I bought it. I bought the car and immediately put it in my garage. It has a March 1915 engine (7162xx) with a casting date of 2 25 1915, 1915 body (*15* 2253xx), ribbed pedals, full set of brass rim lamps, and a correct horn with difficult to find brass elbow. I have the original firewall tag, which the previous owner cleaned up with a wire brush, it is still legible but would need to have the background repainted, I'll have to add the tag number here at some point. Unlike some brass cars you find, this started its life out as a brass 1915 and is not just a compilation of parts. This is a car that deserves to be carefully restored to its former beauty and put back on the road. Every part will require attention to make this the beauty it once was. Mechanicals: The engine and trans were supposedly rebuilt in around 2005-2006, but I don't have any information from the previous owner showing what was done and what he considered "rebuilt". I have attached a photo looking into the trans which looks like it could use to be cleaned or such. The engine turns when the hand crank is pulled. The rear wheels spin. The drive line will likely need to be at least gone through and I cannot make any assertion of the condition in any way. Chassis: The rolling chassis appears to be very original with only one or two spring leaves not having the correct 1915 style taper. I have additional undercarriage photos which I can share in an album. The wheels on it are 30 x 3.5" and 30 x 3" square felloe wheels. I would probably have them redone if I were to drive the car but are good for rollers right now. The tires are a complete set of used Firestone 30 x 3.5" pieces. The front tires do not fit on the wheels completely, but are good for rolling right now. Body: The body has its share of bumps and bruises as you can see in the photos. There is rot in the sheet metal along the sill between the front and rear doors on each side. The wooden sill on the driver's side has evident deterioration and will need work. The rear corners of the body have rot and the rear panel has some rot at the bottom edge and corners. There may be some other rot or blemishes, but what can you expect from an original 103 year old car? The front fenders have no rot and are pretty decent considering their age. The running boards are workable, although one appears to have a crack that was braced with steel bolted on. The rear fenders appear to each have been hit. The car appears to have all of its original floor boards. The top irons will need work as well. Interior: The seat backs still have springs, but the covering and stuffing is shot. The seat bottoms are surprisingly nice in comparison as they were stored someplace far from the car while it was in storage. They still will need to be recovered. Most of the door panels and kick panels have entirely deteriorated, so it is fairly easy to see the sheet metal. The car has a wooden block to support a bulb horn. Parts not pictured: Coil box - included- needs restoration. No coils. Wooden steering wheel - refinished, looks nice - included 1915? Ford speedometer - missing bottom cable adapter, bezel, and glass - included correct 1915 horn with cut out mounting bracket with brass connector elbow - included Brand new Lang's firewall - still in package - included 1915 style brass rim tailight - included Additional photos: I have an album of some additional photos which I have taken, although they aren't the best. The car is currently located in storage and is difficult to get close to get nice photos. Some photos show a different set of natural colored wheels, those are NOT included in this action.
