Lotus Europa 1972 Twin Cam with weber race conversion carbs and in- take Here is a "No Reserve" auction for this decent condition running Twin Cam Europa. Own a piece of motorsport history. The Europa is the first production mid-engine sports car and this one is the best of the years; the TWIN CAM “Big Valve”. If you know Lotus Europa’s, you know 1971-1/2-1975 twin cams are the car you want. The closest thing to formula one racing you could get at the time and still being raced today on tracks all over the world. A great collector classic that has beat the S&P index over the past 15 years, so not only is it a unique supercar right up there with Maserati, Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche but a great investment too. Lotus has always been a leader in racing and the dominate winner for about a 20 year period in the 60’s and 70’s beating all other makes. Great power to weight ratio and very low profile, 0-60 in 7 sec in 1972! This car could be used at track days, turned into a race car or used in many vintage tours and rallies. Has the large original work shop manual too! There are a number of USA parts companies for the Lotus brand so parts are not an issue, especially for the twin cam years. This Europa has had over $3000 in new parts and service in the last two years including: · New tires · Muffler · Brake master rebuild dual circuit girling · New brake lines · One piece performance Header, pipe and tail · Clutch cable and bracket · Distributor, mech advance Twin cam Pertronix ignitor II · Ignition wire set · Coil and bracket · Brake shoe and caliper kit · Newer battery · New arms and wipers · *The engine was rebuilt at one time and new race head and weber bell race carbs So this 72 Lotus is running and stopping well, but some repair needs to be done to the frame, which is common on all the light weight Lotus frames, especially in the northern climates. I have done a temporary weld patch to the driver’s side front box, but more work need to be done. The suspension should all be gone through and rebuilt and new bushings and any frame rust repaired properly and treated. The car should not be driven as is until that work is done! Many restorers put in new frames, but I think you can repair this frame on the lift. It’s a good car, but all Europa’s of this age need to have this work done and this Europa is no different and has not had that frame work done yet. That is the reason for the low opening bib, otherwise this would be a 20K car. A bit more about the car: This Europa has been fitted with Weber race carbs and intake along with what appears to be a more aggressive head and cams, as I have the original set to be sold separately. This engine because of those improvements will produce more HP then stock. Probably more in-line with the later “twin cam Special” or greater I think it has had a respray; the original color appears to have been blue. Body has two small cracks in the fiberglass that will need a patch (see photos) not a big deal and NOT from a crash. The interior is a bit worn and needs lifted and the driver’s seat has a some splits Driver side also has a race harness . As noted above $3000 in parts and service has already been sorted on this Europa. Basically you will be getting a decent driver that needs some frame work and a few other bits sorted and repaired. Since this Lotus saw some track time a few of the unnecessary systems were taken off like the windshield sprayer, etc. You could restore this car to show room new or just make the necessary repairs and use as a good condition driver. While it is not a project car; is it a car that has some projects to do left on it. but that is somewhat the fun of it that makes it your own. The reason I am selling it is simple, I have too many cars and also I am in my mid 50's and at 6’-1” tall and 220 Lbs getting in and out is hassle. I don't want to be the old bald chubby guy struggling to get in and out of a supercar, LOL. Plenty of room once in, but the car was meant for a smaller or at least more agile and hip person than I. I am also in the middle of an Austin Healey and MG project along with several real estate projects so instead of the Lotus collecting dust for a three or four years till I get to it, I have decided to let it go to some lucky Lotus collector. Hagerty shows real sale/auction values for a stock Lotus Europa twin cam without the upgrades this one has in good to excellent condition going between 25-35K going up. I have seen most decent good Europa’s go for 25k+ so there is plenty or financial room for repair and later profit . I am defiantly selling this car, so the opening bid is very low for a legendary Lotus and it is no reserve! Thus some lucky lotus bidder is going to own this Lotus twin cam with race parts! But please remember it needs frame work/repair and other items sorted.
