This two-door grand tourer is the Fifth Generation SL and has been carrying the letters SL, in one form or another, since its introduction in 1954 with the Iconic W198 300SL Gullwing. This R129 SL was launched as model year 1990 in North America, with 2002 being the final production year. This 2000 model year benefited many updates sin 1990 and Mercedes fixed a lot of the quirks and issues of the early models, which makes this 2000 model year a very sound investment. This SL500 has the world famous M11 5.0L V8 engine (which in its Kompressor version won performance engine of the year in 2003) that Mercedes puts into numerous The S, SL, CL, CLS and E models and are known for their performance and excellent reliability. This engine produces 302hp at 5,600rpm and 339 ft-lbs of torque at 2,700rpm, making this SL500 surprisingly quick.
