Vehicle Detail
Finally another icon of the the 1970’s, the Suzuki GT 750 Le Mans triple cylinder liquid cooled two stroke. 18,030 original miles. GT meant Gran Turismo in Italian and the Le Mans name is from the famous race track that Steve McQueen actually did a bit of the racing in. It was named the Water Buffalo in the USA and the Kettle in the UK. Was it slow? Not really by itself. It was misunderstood, right? Remember the horsepower wars of Japan’s big four manufacturers, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki? The GT 750 was going to change the landscape of Sport Touring, Touring and maybe some road racing. Suzuki figured liquid cooling was the answer to the middle cylinder seize that was more common on the nasty Kawasaki triples. Engineers at Suzuki thought that had the answer but at 67 horsepower and about 524 lbs wet the Le Mans was still no match at the race track against the screaming intakes of the Kawasaki H2 750. But then again it was a much more civilized ride than the "on and off” H2 throttle response. The Sport Touring affectionados suddenly found a great Sport Touring machine and started adding Windjammer fairings and Vetter touring luggage to cruise up the either one of the coast highways and byways. It was giving Honda CB 750’s (also at 67 HP) a run for their money with a top speed of 120-125 mph as claimed by Suzuki. The Suzuki was quicker and smoother off the line than the Honda but then again that is a matter of opinion. Nothing like a big two stroke machine with the crisp throttle response now! It was Now! The Liquid Cooled two-stroke Transversed Triple was enjoying a following like no other with it’s smooth triple 32 mm Mikuni carbs as well as this first year only Twin-Sided 200mm (8 inches long) drum front brake. These Front drum Brakes ( the later models succumbed to discs like all the manufacturers) are sought after by many a vintage motorcycle racer and custom builder secondary to there legendary stopping power. I know it is legendary and a lot of legends are just that ,,,,,Legends. There is a set on Ebay now for $850. Unfortunately with the EPA coming down hard on the two stroke machines of the 1970’s the Japanese manufacturers were never able to continue the refinement of the legendary two stroke power and engine response. Except some RG500’s out of the USA. The big four Japanese manufacturers had to bow to the United States yet again due the emissions requirements of the day. (Remember air pump systems in your Datsun?). Here is your chance to own a machine that will give you the grin of yesterday as well as maybe a "little in your face” today of owning one of the most iconic machines Suzuki Motorcycle Corporation ever produced. (Along with the questionable RE5 which will be available soon on eBay) With a little puff of two stoke smoke from the pipes(maybe a little Castrol R to clear the sinuses) the masses will know or maybe not know what kind of unique and rare motorcycle this is. It is a rare breed. This Suzuki is being offer for bid is not running but the engine does turn over by smoothly by hand cranking. It has been sitting in a collection for many years and was one the owner was going to restore but did not get to. And then again as I looking at the pictures it doesn’t seem to need much restoring. Some cleanup and TLC mechanical I’m certain. It has the original early pipes with the black tips. The iconic drum front brake. All pieces are intact except the rear tail light lens which will be found by next week. It’s around here somewhere. The paint is a very nice aqua marine blue with white stripes. The wide seat for comfort along with the grab rail was great for your passenger. The seat does have one tear at a seam. There is a tool kit which is original. The turn signals are all original. Chrome has some surface rust as well as great in other areas. With wonderful products such as “Evaporust” this would be an easy cleanup. The gauges are in excellent condition. There is one crease in the tank as shown by the pictures. The inside of the tank will need some care and again a few gallons of “Evaporust” will probably do the trick. The Suzuki GT 750 Le Mans is being sold not in running condition. There is no warranty implied or otherwise. Comes with a Bill of Sale Only. When listing eBay does not have an option for no title - Shipping will be up to the new owner of this wonderful machine. It will take a bit of know how and I am sure there many out there who have the knowledge,,, as well as the skills to bring this machine back to its glory days of gas and horsepower wars. There will be a $500 good faith deposit through PayPal. I am sorry but I cannot store the Suzuki for more than a week or two. I am out of room. Happy bidding on this iconic motorcycle,,, a new home in your garage or maybe your office? Not many of these in this condition that has not been molested or taken apart. Best of luck on a great Christmas present to yourself…..
