2002 Volvo V70 XC AWD, wagon, 5 cyl turbo 2.4 liter engine ( 197 hp), 5 speed automatic transmission, 179,000 miles, Arizona car. This car runs excellent and has no significant mechanical issues (no check engine light, and no problems that affect its reliability and safety). VIN YV1SZ58D121054644 I bought this car approximately two years ago specifically because of relocating to a remote rural setting that is accessed through a flood zone, and I anticipated that strong AWD traction would be needed to get in and out during monsoon season. I am aiming to sell it now because experience revealed that AWD was not required, even during monsoon season - my two RWD Mercedes cars are sufficient. Hence the Volvo only sits in the garage, and it is a burden to keep its gasoline fresh and its starter battery on trickle charge continuously. The Volvo was not entirely well serviced when I bought it, and I immediately brought it up to good repair by correcting all significant mechanical issues that I identified with it, whereas in my remote setting (25 miles from city) I require absolute reliability and in a car. After addressing all of the repair/maintenance on the car, I drove it roughly 400 miles to test its reliability and it performed very well with no problematic issues. Service work completed (less than 500 miles ago ) includes transmission flush and fluid replacement, engine coolant system flush and fluid replacement, oil and filter change, new front struts, strut mounts, ball joints, alignment checked, control arm bushings, rear L stabilizer arm, RF CV axle seal at transmission, new rubber boots installed on RF CV axle, gear shift release button repaired and replaced, and entire rear hatch and window assembly replaced due to broken rear window. Please note the transmission flush was completed thoroughly, with more than 2x its capacity in new fluid being pumped through until all fluid in the transmission flowed absolutely clean, and the transmission genuinely shifts perfectly. The cooling system works normally with no overheating, even while sitting idling with air-conditioning on in Arizona's 125°F summer temperatures. Brakes pads and rotors have plenty of service life left, and braking is excellent. The engine and transmission are solid and function perfectly. There are no leaks, smoke emissions, nor rough idles. Shifting is smooth and acceleration is smooth and powerful. Fully functional climate control system. Air conditioning functions well (very cold). Heater works well also. Tires (215 65 R16) are in good condition (no cracks or dry rot) with approximately 30% to 40% tread remaining (closeup photo), and all wheels are balanced and without vibration at highway speeds. The car has a full size spare tire, and factory jack and lug bolt wrench, all functional in good condition. The starter battery is a few yars old, but tests good, starts car reliably, and is kept charged continuouslywhile car is in storage. The XC (cross country) model has higher clearance than the standard Volvo V70, and it performs well on wet, muddy, slippery terrain with its primary drive delivered from the front wheels. The all-wheel-drive technology in this model year of Volvo is based on a viscous coupling mechanism, wherein the viscous fluid, once heated, activates rear wheel drive assist. Volvo initially introduced its XC of this year with much fanfare, even claiming it to be on a par with the four-wheel-drive Land Rover, in terms of its all-wheel-drive traction efficacy. The test of time, however, revealed that the viscous coupling system is entirely substandard, and was replaced in later model years with better all-wheel drive technology. Hence, if you're needing a four-wheel-drive vehicle for your particular setting, it is recommended that this vehicle will not suffice, even though it's traction capability may be superior to a standard 2wd. vehicle. Official fuel consumption rating is 19 city and 25 highway, and this car achieves up to 29 mpg highway when driven conservatively (65 to 75 mph with 40psi in tires). Regarding the car's vehicle inspection for emissions testing (OBD compliance), its last record of testing was on March 31, 2015 in Tucson Arizona, With the car's mileage recorded on the test sheet as 170,000. It passed the OBD readiness monitor, the gas cap inspection, and the OBD test, without issues. As very few miles have been put on the car since, and the car runs well, it is probable that the car will readily pass emissions testing as required. There is no collision damage and no rust. The paint is original and in relatively good condition despite 15 years of AZ sun exposure (arctic silver/blue metallic) with minor (not evident ) touch ups in a few locations. Clearly, the car has spent much of its life garaged, given that the original paint remains relatively good (photos). The car has been garaged continuously over the last two years. Bumper covers front and back and lower side panels (originally black unpainted) were painted in satin granite gray. The interior is gray /beige leather and is generally clean and in good condition, except for the leather driver and passenger seats, which have substantial wear (photo). The remarkable front seat cushion attrition may not be an indication that the car was abused, rather Volvo errored in the quality of its seat coverings this particular year, and numerous owners reported obtaining compensation, even out of warranty, for the premature seat wear. The front bottom-section seat leather is abundantly torn and worn (photo). The front seats are covered with dense foam seat covers, which conceals the wear (photos). Rear leather seats, which fold down/up are in good condition. Side panels and other interior panels are clean and in good condition. The car is definitely appointed as a luxury vehicle with most conceivable options of its vintage. The factory tinted windows are especially helpful, and all glass is in excellent condition. The car includes a factory cargo net barrier, which can be kept in place or folded in half and carried in the luggage compartment (photos). Seat adjustment is electric. Has tinted sunroof. The car design emphasis is on both safety and comfort. It also offers good utility with fold down rear seat backs and a lot of cargo capacity. It has the full factory roof rack option. The car is rated as capable to tow 3500 lbs, yet this particular car has no tow assembly and no history of towing. The 197 hp turbo engine delivers aggressive passing acceleration on the highway. The original owner's manual is included with the car, and it includes detailed instructions on operating the car's many features. 　 Issue disclosure: The struts (gas shocks) that hold up the engine cover/hood are depleted, and the rear hatch struts are close to depletion (not reliably holding the hatch up). The car has only one key, and does not have a key-less entry device. The right front headlight (it functions normally) is cracked and repaired (sealed) with glass adhesive. The stereo system volume control requires precise pressure to adjust. Front stabilizer bar end-links have slight play and may on occasion click mildly if driving on rough terrain. All suspension components were rigorously inspected when the new front suspension components (itemized above) were installed and all suspension and drive components, including the stabilizer bar end-links, are sufficiently tight so as not to require replacement. Remarkably, the CV axles (both originals ) were both removed and carefully tested for play, and neither required replacement, thereby suggesting that the car has not been driven aggressively. The car's computer messaging system presently displays two messages - an a SRS airbag service reminder (which I interpret as a profit amenity for the dealer), and a left side lightbulb out - the exact location of this lightbulb has not been evident, and thus I've not sought out to replace it. There may be a small amount of vapor loss from the cooling system. It is not leaking fluid, and the system is holding strong pressure, yet the coolant level dropped approximately 1 pint over a 400 mile test drive session in very hot weather. This amount of vapor loss may be not considered a mechanical defect as the volume of loss was minor and occurred in extreme high temperatures with air-conditioning on consistently. As all the cooling system hoses and connections appear in good condition, we can expect the vapor leak is occurring at the water pump seal, which is presumed the original, and therefore it is anticipated that the minor vapor loss will be resolved when the new timing belt kit components, including new water pump, are installed (these new parts are included with the car - photo), which should be completed within the next 10,000 miles according to Volvo's recommended service schedule. New parts included with car (approx $120 value): top-quality timing belt kit - belt, tension pulleys, water pump, seals, and gasket (were purchased in anticipation of Volvo recommended scheduled maintenance) - (photo). The car is not being driven regularly, and therefore is not registered and plated. A temporary 3day DMV permit may be obtained to test drive and/or to drive the car to its new home. Clean AZ title, is notarized as an open title and ready for the buyer/new-owner to transfer. The 2002 Volvo V70 has predominantly received favorable reviews from owners, with owners reporting excellent comfort, reliability, and safety. Price $1780 Regarding price determination: As of January 2018, Kelly Blue Book lists the private party sales value of a 2002 Volvo V70 XC at between $1,743 to $2,465 - $1780 is an excellent value because the car runs well and is particularly safe, comfortable, and reliable - and it has had a major amount of expensive maintenance completed recently. You will not face major expensive repairs as its new owner. Offers are welcomed, yet I can not consider too low of a price given that I invested in substantial ($$$$) maintenance on the car.
