Vehicle Detail
1972 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE EL CAMINO CUSTOM - 307ci V8 ENGINE - 3-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION(NICE DRIVER!! SUPER DEAL!!) This is a nice driving 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle El Camino Custom with a 307ci small block V-8 engine and 3-speed (turbo 350) automatic transmission. V.I.N. #1D80F2B554600 which decodes as follows: 1=make: Chevrolet, D=trim package: Custom El Camino, 80=model: 2dr Sedan Pickup, F=engine: V-8 307cid, 2=model year: 1972, B=assembly plant: Baltimore, MD, and the last six digits=production sequence number: 554600. An El Camino with the “Custom” trim package is also the perfect candidate if you plan to build a SS clone because all SS models started production having the “Custom” trim code. It has a clean and clear Pennsylvania state title in my name. Everything is basically stock on the El Camino including the engine with the only known addition being dual exhaust. The odometer currently shows around 74,994 miles on it, though since I still drive it on occasion that may be slightly higher at time of purchase. I believe that it actually has 174,994 miles on it. I am not sure of any work ever done to the engine but I would suspect it must have had common things like the timing chain, etc. replaced at some point. It has the factory AM/FM radio with windshield antenna that works good. It seems to run, drive, and shift well but I know it has some oil leaks here and there (definitely the valve covers are leaking) and may need some maintenance from use and age. I would guess a good old fashioned tune-up wouldn’t hurt either since it appears to have not had one in a while. The heat works good. The fuel gauge does not seem to be working correctly. It is currently Pennsylvania state inspected until 05/18. The tires are all very nice and appear to have been new just a short time ago. It comes with the original manuals including the original window sticker when it was purchased new all still in the glove box. The black interior is in good condition especially considering its age. The bench seat is in great condition though I do not know if it was ever redone. Everything else about the interior is definitely completely original. The dash pad does have a typical sun crack and the steering wheel does have a few small splits but nothing too major. All in all the interior needs nothing if you are looking for a nice driver. The car or truck depending on how you look at it has been completely repainted at least one time in its life and I suspect also had some body work done to it as well. All in all the car is pretty solid though it does has some bubbles and small rust spots showing around the common areas, very bottom of fenders, front and rear wheel opening edges by trim, bottom of doors and edges, a small spot near the drivers side mirror, etc, along with the worst in my opinion being a larger rust hole on the inside the bed area on the right side wheel well. I’m sure it has some some small dings and dents here and there. The underneath and frame seem ok from what I can tell but I’m sure there could be some rust in common spots that I can’t see. It was garage kept for atleast a good portion of it’s life so it seemed to stay better then most other El Caminos for it’s age. The floors appear to be not too bad from what I can tell but I do see some rust in the middle of one of the floor braces above the driveshaft (pictured). Obviously it has current PA state inspection so I would not expect there is anything too major wrong but it is an old car so anything is possible. The bed floor has the typical dents, scraps, bellies, and marks from years of use and age. It appears there may have been some repair done or possibly seam sealer used along the edges of the bed floor and just behind the drivers compartment. The paint shows imperfections, scratches, bubbles, marks but over all presents well enough for a great driver. I have pictured a few of the worst areas of paint issues or bubbles. There are some very light paint bubbles on the rear roof pillar (pictured) most likely from some moisture when it was painted. The right side rear quarter panel does appear to have been repaired and repainted at a different time and is a green shade of color off. The moldings and trim show all the small dents and marks associated with a vehicle that 45 years old. This El Camino is great to drive and use just as it is and like I have been doing or would make a great candidate for a complete restoration to any level if you so desired. I have been driving it on a pretty regular basis over the past few months and have not had to really do anything to it. I have tried to describe what I know about it but please use the pictures to determine the condition for yourself or if you truly want to evaluate it I recommend that you setup a time to come check it out in person. This is a 45-year old used vehicle that is being sold as-is where-is with no warranty (no exceptions). Local pickup only and buyer is responsible for making any and all transportation arrangements. A $500.00 PayPal payment for the non-refundable deposit only is required within 24-hours and full payment via certified check or cash is required within 72-hours of online purchase (sorry no exceptions - obviously except for Sunday or holiday). You can send a certified/guaranteed funds check by express type mail to make sure that it comes in a timely manor or make a cash payment in person. If have any questions feel free to ask and I will try to answer them as best as I can. Please email or call/text: 215-550-7425. Thank you for viewing! I am listing this El Camino as a “nice driver” because that is exactly what it is. It runs good, drives good, shifts good, steers good, brakes good (for none power brakes), and even sounds good. It does everything it is supposed to do and I personally would drive (and have driven) it anywhere. All that said it is not perfect or a show car but it presents well enough for what it is and gets looks and compliments all the time. If you are looking for a show car or restored El Camino then you need to spend $20,000+ and buy one. But if you want one that you can drive, use, and enjoy at an affordable price and maybe do a total restoration on some day then this is certainly the car for you. The first twenty-two pictures show the car, the twenty-third picture shows the original window sticker and manuals, and the last picture is a screen shot image from my view as of 01/01/2018 @ 9:50pm EST showing the large amount of interest and numerous offers I have already had on this car in the short time it has been listed. The car also comes with brand door weatherstripping and brand new left and right outside door handles that I purchased for it but were never installed. For those purchasing from far distances that need time to arrange transport of the El Camino there is no rush for pickup as long as the car is paid for in the allotted time frame as stated. Pennsylvania residents must keep in mind that they will have to go to a notary along with me for title transfer and the buyer is responsible for all transfer fees and state taxes. The title will also have to be notarized on my end for out of state buyers picking the car up themselves in person and depending on what state you are from but we can work out the details for that once you purchase the car. For out of state buyers having the car transported I will have the title notarized and express mail it to you once I have your required information.
