Vehicle Detail
This Spitfire is number 159 off the production line for the 1970 model year and was purchased from the original owner for restoration, unfortunately time has escaped us and now it needs to go. Over the last week we have drained and refilled the engine with Brad Penn 20W50 engine oil and fitted a quality oil filter, we also fitted new spark plugs, plug wires, points and cap along with a new fuel pump and filter. For the cooling system we have drained, flushed and refilled the coolant and fitted an up-rated three row radiator and 13lbs radiator cap. We also tried cleaning out the fuel tank and managed to remove a lot of rust and gunge but there is still some gunge in it. The engine runs without any undue noises and all the gears and clutch work. It does sound like the rear U joints will need replacing. This car has spent most of its life here in California and the Body panels look to be in reasonable condition, there is some rust in the front sections of both the RH and LH floors which is normally the case on an early Spitfire, but the chassis and the rest of the car appears solid. This truly is a car that deserves a full restoration. The body appears to have received a respray at some point and the panel gaps between bonnet, doors and valances are very good, leading one to believe this is a pretty unmolested Spitfire. Small dents are present on the body. The underside appears to be very solid with just surface rust present.Interior seats are complete but should probably be re-upholstered. The carpet has long since disappeared. To sum it up, If you are looking for a 1970 Model year Spitfire to do a restoration on it doesn't get much better than this very complete and original car. This car had been sitting in the previous owners garage for a very long time and is being sold as a project. Car is currently on Non Op Status with the state of California. Buyer is responsible for Shipping. Sold AS IS with no warranty implied.
