Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 1951 & 1953 Dodge Trucks – parts or restoration stock Up for sale is a large collection of early 50’s Dodge truck hardware. Included in the sale, to the extent that the buyer wants any or all of it, are a pair of ‘patina’ ½ ton Dodge trucks, one a 1951 and the second a 1953. I have clean titles for both of them. The 51 is nearly complete, missing only a drive shaft, while the 1953 has been more extensively scavenged and has no radiator, no starter, no drive shaft, and no transmission. Both have had some body parts removed. Both have engines and the 1951 ran and was more or less drivable when it came home years ago. Both are 3-window cabs, meaning they do NOT have the small quarter windows on either side of the rear window. Neither truck is self-mobile at this point, and so would have to be winched onto a trailer or into a transport truck for shipment. Both trucks are up on concrete cinder blocks in my barn and have been there for quite some time now. Included with these two trucks are as much of the disassembled body and frame components from several other Dodge trucks as the buyer wishes to take. There are no spare cabs but there are a LOT of extra body parts, bed parts, front end body parts, fenders, etc. Among these body parts are most of a 1950 Dodge 1-ton long bed that we scrapped when we discovered that the frame had nearly rusted through from a life spent dealing with salted roads in the wintertime. The 1-ton complete front and rear suspension are in the bed of the 1951 truck. The 1953 truck has a large collection of small restored body parts in the bed. There are a pair of cut-out quarter windows from the 1950 cab that could be welded into either of the two cabs, converting it from a 3-window to a 5-window cab. There is also a complete dash, cut out from the rotten cab of the 1950 1-ton. The 49-50 dash was very different from the later model 51-54 dash. Any of these items that the buyer does not want will be dumped to a recycle outfit and shredded/crushed as steel scrap. Also included in this sale is a huge collection of front and rear bumpers, some home made (rear), some factory originals (front). There is also one blown engine, possibly rebuildable, it ran when it arrived in one of the trucks we restored, but was pretty far gone, so we opted to put in a better motor. Curb weight on these old trucks is about 3500 lb each, and my best guess is that there may be around 8000 lb total of steel in this collection. At current scrap prices that is worth less than $500. I would much rather this collection go to someone who can use and/or resell the parts, and am setting an auction starting price above the scrap value to deter scrappers from bidding. This auction will not be repeated, and if the collection does not sell, I will tow the trucks to a local scrap dealer here in Houston myself. I really hope that doesn’t happen, as there are a lot of decent parts in this collection, parts that I will never use. I have restored a grand total of FOUR 1949-1953 Dodge trucks, two 1-tons and two ½-tons, and this is pretty much what is left from that exercise. I need the space in my barn back for current projects and hobbies. Please DO NOT BID ON THIS AUCTION IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE SHIPPING COSTS to get it to your location. I grow weary of people winning an auction and then welshing on it when they realize shipping adds to the cost and they didn't factor it into their bidding strategy. Out of 5 cars I have attempted to sell, this has happened THREE TIMES NOW and it gets very old very quickly. On Jun-27-17 at 10:20:16 PDT, seller added the following information: FOOTNOTES: The straight frame rails for the 1950 long bed 1-ton that we disassembled and scrapped are part of this sale. I have a clean title for a 1951 1-ton if the buyer wants it. Assuming someone can weld, the 1-ton could be restored using the cab from either the 53 or 51 half ton. The cab and nose body parts were interchangeable between half, three-quarter and one ton trucks. What is not interchangeable are the suspension and the bed on the long bed, which is also wider than a half ton. All the frame and bed parts are here EXCEPT the tail gate for the 1-ton, it had none when we bought it. The only other big stumbling block are wheels for the 1-ton. Those were split rims, badly aged and rotted from salt exposure, a non-standard 6-bolt pattern as well. I have NEVER found clincher rims in that bolt pattern and am living with 50's vintage split rims on the two 1-tons I have restored. There are no spare rims here for a 1-ton. The parts pile has parts in it from both the 50 1-ton and from another partial 52 or 53 half-ton that the seller of the 50 had bought to restore the 1-ton with. There are front and rear fenders, two sets of bed sides, one long and one standard, and there are two hoods, but only one front nose.
