1996 Volkswagen Passat TDI Turbo Diesel is in excellent condition. Aprox 188,000 miles. Instrument Panel has been replaced as is common with these cars, but mileage can be documented through service records.There were only about 2500 of these cars imported into the United States.They were all hand built in Wolfsburg Germany, and were the first of the now popular TDIs made. They are capable of running on 100% biofuel (not waste vegetable oil) without modificationI have been averaging about 42mpg on a 39 mile commute. This is a pre EPA TDI and is not affected by the recalls. No anti Pollution controls to break or give you trouble. Does not require emissions inspection in NY. These cars run forever.I am the second owner , and have all repair receipts since I have bought the car about 5 years ago, and have many receipts from the previous owner. Always garaged and meticulously maintained with OEM or high quality parts and serviced by VW mechanics.Since I have owned the carNever driven in the winter Run on 45 cetane diesel Hals Diesel Treatment always added to tank. List of some of what has been done.Brand new Kumho tires.Brand new wheel bearingsNew front end components.StrutsTiming belt and water pump5th injector bypass done. Waxoyl rust treatment has been applied This car is tight and drives like new.Problems- The car is 19 years old so it does have some minor issues.Headliner needs to be replaced- and roof antenna since it is easily accessible when headliner is removed.Rear windows -- Common problem with this model car. oDrivers side rear window does not workoPassenger side rear window only works from the front controls.All in all the car is in excellent condition and gets better mpg than current TDIs.
