Please, no zero- or low-feedback offers without contacting me first; thank you. I would like to be able to speak with you in person before accepting any offer, so please feel free to call. Tim 360-936-9257 Up for sale is an amazing 2-owner 1967 Ford Mustang “S-code” 390 HP big block Coupe with only 84,050 original miles, 100% verified by the second owner’s family who have owned the car since 1969. A rust-free California black-plate car since new, it still has its' classic small California “pink slip” title! Marti Report pictured to confirm authenticity. The car sold new through Montebello Motors in Montebello, CA. When the car was less than two years old, a quarter-midget racer and Pantera owner named Frank Creswell bought the car. According to his family, he immediately took the car to Louie Unser’s high performance engine shop in nearby Fullerton, California (less than 20 miles away) and had the world-renowned race engine builder modify the original engine for high performance. If you aren’t aware, Louie Unser was brother to Jerry, Al, and Bobby Unser, all very famous international racers. Louie was the chief mechanic not only for the brothers’ racing endeavors, but also built engines for off-road racer Bill Stroppe, and the iconic Carrol Shelby. The performance build reportedly included the addition of a bigger cam, 428 Cobra Jet C8AE-N high performance heads, 428 crank and rods, and an overbore with forged pistons. An aluminum high-rise intake and high performance carburetor were added (original was Holley 750 4v, now has an Edelbrock 4v), along with a Mallory High Energy ignition system. It presumably received the full blueprint, balance and performance tune treatment that Louie Unser was famous for. Without removing the heads I can’t tell you exactly what the final displacement is, but it’s somewhere between 416 and 428 cubic inches. The engine runs beautifully and I have no intention of taking it apart. A performance Hooker Header and cut-down Flow Master exhaust system was installed to round things out... the car sounds mean. I can verify that it indeed has the C8AE-N 428 Cobra Jet heads, and the Louie Unser-badged rocker covers. While I don't have an supporting paperwork (motor was built ~1970), doing the math, identifying parts, and having the family tell me the story of the car and build, I believe the engine is exactly as described. The car has remained registered in California continually until 2015, and driven lightly in fair weather. Being a racer himself, the second owner went through the suspension and drivetrain to make the Mustang a true street racer. He lowered the car ~2”, upgraded the rear drum brakes to discs to match the front, added a Monte Carlo bar under the hood to stiffen the front suspension and subframe, and installed a bolt-in roll bar. He had the wheel lips slightly rolled to accommodate the widest possible tire and wheel combination, installed performance shock absorbers, etc. The car drives like it's on rails. The big C6 automatic transmission is floor-shifted with the original shifter, and sends the estimated 400+ horsepower to the factory 9” rear end. This car is a powerhouse and runs great. The body is very straight with no lower rust presenting anywhere. There is old body filler cracking under the paint at the fender wheel transitions (appears to be simply old custom bodywork, not rust on the lips), and in one area on the passenger side door where there was a dent. I have taken pictures of these areas, the last four pictures of the sequence. The car appears to have never had rust, or rust repair; nothing in the trunk, door bottoms, floors, rockers, etc. that I can find. While the paint is old, in my opinion the car still looks great, and has a tough Street Fighter look to it. The black vinyl standard interior upholstery is in very good condition, as you can see. The steering wheel and the dash pad are original; no cracks in the dash pad but it has some heat warping. The interior also features the original sun visors, door panels, headliner, and newer carpet. The dash itself is completely unmodified and in good condition, with the optional clock. There is a Sixties period-correct over-the-counter Ford Cobra 6,000 rpm tachometer mounted low to monitor engine revolutions; a very cool vintage addition. The door features the original data tag, with the serial number matching that found on the inner fender, with options and authenticity verified by the Marti Report. Options include the S-code 390 4v high performance big block engine, standard interior, power disc brakes, Raven Black paint, black standard interior, and lower rocker molding trim. The car also has power steering. Recent mechanical maintenance includes a fresh tune-up including plugs and wires, an oil change and new filter. This is a rare opportunity to own an unrestored early Mustang street racer in the best factory paint color offered... black, black, black! NOTE: Unless the car is sold to someone in California, I will be keeping the license plates. Clear title in hand, matches VIN exactly for export, inspection, etc. Please be prepared to remit payment in full within 3 days of auctions end via deposit into my Bank of America account, or bank wire transfer. While every effort is being made to describe the vehicle as precisely as possible, it is in fact a 50-year-old classic, and therefore being sold exactly as-is, without warranty or guarantee expressed, written, or implied. Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer; I can assist in finding you an affordable carrier, and will make the vehicle and myself available for pick-up and loading on short notice; I prefer a 48-hour head’s-up. Please feel free to call me directly at 360-936-9257 with any questions you may have. ~Tim
