The Mercedes-Benz W116 is a series of flagship luxury sedans produced from September 1972 until 1980. The W116 automobiles were the first Mercedes-Benz models to be officially called S-Class although earlier sedan models had already unofficially been designated with the letter 'S'. The 300 SD sedan had a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-five diesel engine. In September 2013, a 1979 W116 300 SD was campaigned in the 24 Hours of Lemons at Carolina Motorsports Park, where it completed 166 laps at an average speed of 54.8 MPH. It was stated that this car was doing over 45MPG!!!! This car is in truly showroom condition for its year. This car is in truly amazing and wonderful condition and its all original. This car was owned by an elderly doctor from Roosevelt Hospital in Long Island, NY who only used it simply to take a a quite drive on Sundays in the Hamptons where the car was garaged kept. The car is all original including rims and all parts. This car was last registered in 2000 and has then been in garage. The body and interior are all in fine pristine condition, with minor scratches and scuffs. The car has a 3.0L in line straight 6 turbo diesel engine which was knows as bullet proof. This motors were exceeding more that 500,000 miles on average. These motors were meant to last a very long time and they succeded to do so. This motor is just been broken into. This car will last someone another 10 years and many miles. The engine runs and sounds very healthy and clean. runs like clockwork and has great power. The car has no leaks and its completely dry. The engine compartment is very very clean with no signs of wear. This car has been really kept in top shape. Everything and every feature works in this car from all power windows, a/c radio and antena. I have just recently replaced the a/c belts because of their age. Everything works in the car. It has all original chrome, rims and engine parts. In these years this was car was actually manufactured in Germany itself.
