The Ford Thunderbird was Ford's answer to the Chevrolet Corvette. But whereas the Corvette never strayed far from its two seat sports car concept, the Thunderbird would soon add a hardtop coupe version, a back seat, and even two more doors as the do-everything personal car for Ford over the years. But it always provided decent performance along with a dash of style. 1961 was the first year of the third generation Thunderbirds which featured all new exterior styling that earned it the nickname "Projectile Birds". Chassis design was carried over, but was reworked slightly for a smoother ride and better handling. The exterior styling featured a severely pointed front "prow," modest fins above huge renditions of Ford's traditional round tail-lights, and softer roof contours on hardtops. The cowl was shared with the Lincoln Continental, and there was soon similarity in the styling of the grille and the quad headlamps recessed in oblong housings. The car has never been restored and is virtually all original except for one repaint many years ago. The T Bird mechanically is in good order and just passed a recent Alberta inspection and passed. The engine runs nicely and shifts as it should with good power thru the gears and nice highway cruising speeds. The interior is all original to the car and does show wear as evident by the pictures. The dash and console is in tact showing wear, there is the hole in the center console wear the clock used to be, easily replaced if you choose. The seats are still in good shape, one seam tear on upper corner of drivers seat as you can see in the photos. The floor mast and carpet are all original, could be replaced if you choose and would brighten the interior. Headliner is all original, couple holes in back. The tumbler for the ignition was replaced and the cutout wasnt done properly, but still functions perfectly. The paint is a 10 footer as they say, shines up nicely but not a show quality finish of course. Chrome bumpers are all original, front is solid, back has wear of course, and rear bullets chrome has peeled away and does have touch ups. Undercarriage is all original and seems very solid all the way. The engine bay is all original and completely untouched.
