I am the second owner of this vehicle. It was my pride and joy. Unfortunately, on a trip around the USA visiting National Parks the dual mass flywheel came apart and seized the engine. I am not an expert auto technician, I am going on what the lead technician at Porsche of New Orleans advised me. There are bearing remains in the oil filter that indicate this condition. It is not the IMS bearing problem that has plagued earlier Boxsters. My current financial situation does not allow me to replace the engine. It was my only vehicle. (I also have a set of snow tires for the car if one should like to purchase those as well) I took very good care of the car, servicing it according to the Porsche recommendations as did the previous owner. It has four brand new tires (purchased prior to my embarking on my trip) and a new windshield as a result of a rock hit on the trip. The kind folks at the New Orleans Porsche dealer have told me that the car is in exceptional shape for a 2005. If there was any way I could get this car fixed and still be financially sound I would do it. The technicians tell me that a used engine will run about $5000 with another $1000 to install. If you can source an engine from another vehicle that has been wrecked the end product would be quite nice. Buyer would be responsible for picking up the vehicle. The engine is seized but it will trailer well.
