Selling my 1977 2 Door VW Rabbit Diesel. It has been a California car since new and purchased in 1977 at VW in Torrance, CA ( i have the original warranty card documenting this). I am the 3rd owner and the car has a clean CA Title in non-op status with all fees up to date. Original Keys, Manuals, and RARE SPARE TIRE ADDITIONAL FUEL TANK! Solid California car with no body rot or apparent accidents. It currently does not run but did in the past. Condition: Currently the car does not run and its is being sold in non working condition. The previous owner maintained the car well and used it sparingly as a third vehicle. The previous owner told me that in 1998 he parked the car in running order due to an illness and it sat ever since. Things that the previous owner had done to the car during his ownership: Rebuilt the head, Rebuilt the axles, Replaced the clutch, and maintained the car thoroughly. I have owned it for almost a year and have never got around to getting it running. I purchased a new battery and its cranks over but wont start,I left it at that and it has sat since. I'm too busy and will never get this project off the ground. Again, It does not run, I am unsure what it needs to run again, and cannot guarantee that it will only take minimal work to get it going. I am looking for someone who will take care of this car as I had planned on doing! The interior is nice and the only notable issues are that the dashboard is cracked, the backseat has a tear on the upper part of the backrest, and the front seats are slightly different in color. The seats are definitely the same material and vintage, and have to be the original seats. What caused the slight color change...I am unsure. The body is straight with only small dings, the right fender has folded on the corner. All doors close and open smoothly, including the hood and hatch. The panama brown paint is original. Although the paint is in relatively good condition for being 40 years old, it does show age including: fading (mainly to roof), oxidization and worn through areas in spots, scratches, chips, etc. Due to the sun, a lot of the pictures make the paint appear glossier than it is. There are small areas of surface rust, most prevalent near the back window (see pic). Even on the sunroof frame where rot occurs the most, there is only surface rust (see pic). Only other thing I have noticed is that the back right wheel is locked up, I'm guessing the e brake cable detached or needs to be adjusted? The car has been stored in my warehouse in the past year and previously garaged for at least the last 25 years. I also have the original right side moldings and the windshield wipers, they were taken off the car. Sorry for the random order of its present condition. On Jul-20-16 at 17:52:26 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had eBay members ask me about the body. As far as I can see there is no body rot. I have pointed out that there is surface rust near the back windshield frame where the seal is. There is no apparent rot there but since I'm not going to remove the window I can't say that its 100% rust free. Do I think there's rust there, no, due to the solid nature of the rest of the car but is it a possibility of course. Please remember that this is a California car.
