Vehicle Detail
LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING EARLY ON IT. I CAN TALK ON THE PHONE ALSO IF YOU PREFER. THANK YOU. 1996 FORD POWERSTROKE DIESEL CREWCAB SHORTBOX 4X4 This is a very solid truck that I've had for four years. It runs great. It has NO blowby, doesn't use oil, doesn't smoke. This is my truck I use around town and haven't put many miles on it since I've had it. I have a couple other diesels, so I never towed much with this truck or worked it hard. I did tow with it though a few times and it tows nicely and has a folding gooseneck hitch. I knew the second owner of the pickup and the truck has been local since 1998. The body on the truck is in nice shape and it cleans up great. Clean carfax. No sign of any wreck ever. The truck is not perfect but it runs and drives nice and looks great for a '96. Here are all the details on the ford. Feel free to ask questions. I have many more pics I can send and a video of it running. MECHANICAL This pickup has the 7.3 powerstroke with ZF 5-speed with new clutch and flywheel. This truck originally had an automatic. I put the manual in it. I had another truck like this, and swapped everything into this truck. I did it right. Nothing cut or mangled. 4x4 works great. No holes cut in the floor. I used the transmission cover out of the other truck. Carpet wasn't cut. Nobody would know but the gear selector in the gauge panel is still there. The engine in this runs GREAT. No leaks, it doesn't use oil, and it doesn't smoke blue. I think the motor was either rebuilt at some point or a new long block put in it. It has NO blowby. The motor just seems much better than other 94-97 powerstrokes I've seen (and owned) with this mileage. It is common for them to have blowby and smoke blue clouds when cold. This does not. The engine runs cool. No oil in the water or water in the oil. No abnormal ticks or knocks. Oil pressure is great. No fuel leaks. A couple new glowplugs. Newer starter. Newer water pump, front brake pads and rotors. This drivetrain was bone stock when I got the truck, including original muffler. I put a straight pipe on it, 3" downpipe, and aftermarket air cleaner. It also has custom DP tunes. Not a race tune, but a good all-around tune. The truck has way more power than it did when I got it. Like night and day. The truck drives nice down the road. Drives straight. No pulling or wandering, no slack. The tires don't wear funny. The frontend is tight and the balljoints are good. I just had a mechanic check out the front-end because it has a minor vibration in 4x4, on dry pavement. The mechanic could not find anything wrong and checked it out well. It most likely has a dry cap on one of the front axle u-joints. Everything looked fine including the ring/pinion and spider gears. There is no vibration if the hubs are out, even if the shifter is in 4x4. The front driveline u-joints are new. The others in the back are good. Transfer case works as it should. I'm pretty sure it has a posi rear. I can double check that if you care, I just can't remember positively. This has 4.10 gears. I have 3.73 front and rear axles that go with it if you want them. I can strap them to a pallet and put in the back. I was always going to switch them but the 4.10's are nice sometimes for what I was using the truck for, so I didn't care. This has the overdrive 5-speed so the 4.10's aren't too low really but some of you might prefer the higher gears. The tires are older but drive well and have some tread left. I put these tires on used and they haven't been on long. They have approximately 25-30%. I put these on because I had them, and I took the studded tires off I was running in the winter. The powersteering and brakes work as they should. One front rotor/pads needs changed. The A/C is cold. Heater, wipers, and lights all work as they should. CD player is original and doesn't work but radio does. All electric windows work. Rear passenger window does not roll down with drivers switch but works fine with the switch on the door. All gauges work. Both tanks work. 4x4 works as it should. Drivers rear parking brake sticks a little so I don't use it. If it sticks I just tap the backing plate and it un-sticks every time. Not sure what is causing it but I just don't use the parking brake. It does work very well though besides the sticking. The alternator does not kick on for about 30 seconds after starting. This is the regulator not working properly, not the alternator. The regulator is part of the alternator and may be able to be changed separately. I've driven it like this a couple years so it's not an issue to me. The alternator charges fine once it kicks on and does not kick off again after initial start up. Overall, the truck is great mechanically. It needs a couple little things that I mentioned, but nothing major and is a daily driver now. Wheels are new. I will deduct $500 if you don't want them, and put good white spokes on it with other summer tires. BODY The body is in nice shape for a 96. No rust at all. A couple dings but nothing major. No sign of any bodywork ever. No bondo. Clean carfax. The truck looks great and the paint shines up nicely. New windshield. Doors, hood, and tailgate work as they should. The inside of the box is scratched up like they usually are with some dings. Pretty average usage for the age and mileage. Folding gooseneck hitch I've never used. Overall the truck looks good when cleaned up and I get compliments from people who like the 92-97 bodystyle. The crewcab shortbox was relatively rare in this bodystyle. I believe only '96-'97. I've been under the truck many times and it has no rust anywhere. It has the gooseneck and EQ hitches with new brake controller. Rear slider window. Power door locks work. This has a custom built grille guard that is heavily built and strong. Much of the metal on it is solid, not tube metal. It's easy to take off if you don't like it. The truck is tight and looks good. Ford enthusiasts like it. I guess it's technically a classic now that it's 20 years old. INTERIOR The interior is in good shape. Most of it is pretty nice, but the front carpet is not good. It's usable and doesn't look too bad but if I kept it, I would put a new carpet in it. It may not bother some people but It bothers me. The front seat has the usual wear. I don't believe it is ripped anywhere or has any major stains, but it came apart on the drivers seam and I had it sewed back together. The panel on the side of the front seat broke off, but I still have it I think. The door panels, rear seat, rear carpet, headliner, etc. are in nice condition. Dash has a crack but is in decent usable shape. Rear seat has the fold down armrest. Rear seat is pretty nice. The interior is clean and plenty usable now. If I kept it much longer, I would put a different front seat in it and a carpet but it's up to you. The interior does not smell. I do not smoke, and I don't have any pets that ride in it. OVERALL This is a good truck with a great motor. It has a lot of miles left in it. I've owned the truck for four years, but driven it daily for at least two years. It's very reliable. I take good care of my vehicles. I have a new dodge cummins and a '99 ford powerstroke and I just don't want to keep paying license and insurance on three pickups. I am regret to sell it because it's a good pickup that I can rely on. thanks. On Jul-11-16 at 18:49:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Just to be clear there were a couple mistakes in the listing. I have used the gooseneck hitch and it works fine. It is mounted properly. Also, the front brakes do not need repair. The pads and rotors have under 5k on them.
