Relisting. Reserve lowered. This is a head turning motorcycle that belongs in a BMW collection. Powerful and very fast, allegedly, at 178 MPH, it was the fastest production motorcycle when introduced in 1998. Purchased sight unseen in May 2011 from the very reputable BMW Motorcycles of Daytona, the odometer read 3130 miles and the original tires suggested actual mileage of about 18,000 miles. The machine was in otherwise excellent condition according to the salesman. The sale was concluded and the motorcycle shipped to northern Michigan. In five years, this owner has put another two thousand miles on so the best guess is that there the mileage is about 20,000 but certainly no more than 25,000. Motorcycles or cars, in BMW parlance, that is just getting broken in. The rear tire has been replaced and the front one is due. Synthetic oil has been replaced a couple of times. The motorcycle is too little used to maintain this 71 year old's proficiency and wisdom regretfully dictates its sale. The motorcycle at all times has been stored in a heated garage bay workshop. The last ride was for an endorsement. Passing all test and finished, and at a full stop, leather leggings caught the foot peg and the bike went over on its right side resulting in three barely noticeable scuff marks. A BMW driver since 1992, (3 series, 5 series and an X5), I use only dealer quality service, and drive them a long time. Local pick up or buyer arraigned shipping. A reasonable reserve, half of the original acquisition cost, is set and was approached in the first bidding round. New, this was a premium motorcycle and it very much remains that. Should it not sell, this owner is contemplating moving it to the living room as a conversation piece. Happy bidding!
