This auction is for a 1980 Volvo 242 GT. 2.1L 4 cylinder 4 speed w/ electric overdrive 102.000 miles AC power steering pop out rear windows sunroof (manual crank, doesn't open, screw from crank missing but the gear isnt stripped) IPD front and rear sway bars front seats professionally redone in very similar material (corduroy has a tighter knit) car was resprayed in the 1990's and isnt concours quality but is very presentable Stripes were painted on and cleared over Vehicle runs and drives around just fine but is due for some basic maintainance. The tires are old and hard, flat spots from sitting in the garage on concrete. The exhaust has a leak at the rear side of the cat, the gasket is pretty much gone and another small leak at the entrance to the muffler. At highway speed there is a low frequency rumble which turned out to be a u joint at the transmission. The dashboard has a few cracks in it. Rear seat foam is really soft, could benefit from replacement cushions. There are a couple of rust bubbles in the rocker panels. There is a little bit of surface rust in the driver side quarter panel seam There is some surface rust about the size of a quarter in the driver door seam There is one hole smaller than a quarter on the underside of the body (see pics) I have replaced the battery and oil, i have also replaced the rubber fuel line from the fuel tank to in line pump. A tune up was completed at some time early 2016 by someone else. I am averaging roughly 25mpg with this car in mixed driving. Although it lacks horsepower it makes up for it in character and comfort. I love the visceral, raw, mechanical awesomness of this old car. So far so good.. and a great story to boot! It was brought to VA from the west coast about 20 years ago and garaged since... driven sparingly when it was on the road. I pulled it out of a garage myself, and was pleasantly surprised with what i found. i had a rollback take it from garage to my home. Ive put 350 miles on it and it has been quite a conversation piece and fun to drive. unfortunately a vehicle i committed to buying years ago has presented itself... already a done deal.
